Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! is an OVA about two boys who, bored with their lives, decide to take advantage of a school transfer to reinvent themselves as delinquents. At first, they don’t get along at all, but over time they end up becoming really good friends. Even though it has 10 episodes of about 40 minutes each, which seems like plenty of time to develop the story and characters, the anime sticks to typical archetypes and doesn’t try any kind of growth or evolution. I get that it’s supposed to be a comedy, but personally, the tone didn’t really work for me. I only laughed onceat the hair joke, and even then, it wasn’t much. Compared to other comedies, I’d say it hasn’t aged well. The fights, which are a big part of the anime, don’t have great animation even considering when it was made. What really annoyed me was how, in several scenes, they cut to a passing train instead of showing the fight, and the fights themselves always end way too quickly. On top of that, most of the characters that Mitsuhashi and Itou face are just generic delinquent stereotypes. Normally, that wouldn’t be a problem in a comedy, but since the humor doesn’t land, it just ends up feeling boring and repetitive. The main characters are also pretty stereotypical. Mitsuhashi is the biggest example he cheats all the time to win, isn’t honest, and makes fun of other people’s bad luck, especially Imai (the leader of another school and supposedly his friend). On the other hand, Itou is more honest and loyal to his friends and girlfriend. He doesn’t pull pranks and often helps others, but this also means he gets dragged into fights. Since he refuses to cheat, he loses a lot and always ends up being saved by Mitsuhashi. While their dynamic could have been interesting, it stays super shallow and doesn’t go anywhere. The worst part is definitely the ending. It’s completely open probably the most open ending I’ve ever seen. Honestly, it feels like they could’ve stopped at episode 5 or even earlier, and it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. There’s no character development, no closure to any of the storylines, and no real conclusion. In the end, Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! just isn’t a very good OVA. It doesn’t work as a comedy because it’s not funny, the characters are poorly written, and the ending is incredibly unsatisfying. While it might have some nostalgic value for fans of its era, I don’t think it has much to offer for modern viewers.

The term hidden gem gets thrown out a lot in media, but I would absolutely call this anime a hidden gem. Without an official English name listed here the show roughly translated to "starting today I am..." is a mix up of a fun, slapstick, comedy with a delinquent drama where high school kids are all in some kind of gang constantly getting into fights with each other. The mix in tone of serious and parody works surprisingly well here though the majority of the time. I actually prefer the name "Self proclaimed Bad boy" which is used as a title card in the firstepisode. A really fun main cast make this mash up of gimmicks work starting with the duo main protagonists. The dirty fighting Mitsuhashi is usually the center of attention, and his mix of clever and goofy cheating balances out well with when he gets serious. To Itou who is almost too honorable to be a delinquent really. A very positive masculinity character trope who is a bit bone headed, but very good hearted. Then there is Imai who I think is the best character in the show, and just brings this unique goofiness to the mix on top of his over the top bravado. Also the show does a decent job with the female characters who surprisingly are not used for fanservice bait. For this time that is pretty rare. It features a little bit of romance as well. The visuals are pretty good with a lot of nice hand painted backgrounds. I watched a 1080 version which I could not tell you if it was a Blu-ray version, or some kind of upscale but it looked great. You will have to sail the high sees to find this show though unfortunately. The music is good throughout with a very catchy and fun ending song. There are a few negatives with only one of them not really being personal opinion based. The show does not have a real conclusion, and kind of just ends. Being an OVA series I assume the tapes just stopped selling well so they kind of just stopped after finishing a 2 episode story arc. The manga that this is based on covers a lot more than the anime does. Now something that is very opinion based is some of the story lines feel repetitive with many of the villains feeling very one note. Also I think Imai could have not been the butt of the joke 2 or 3 more times to make him look cool more often. Sometimes the show forces Mitsuhashi to be the hero a few times too many when Itou or Imai could have been a better option. 8/10 Give the first episode a shot if a delinquent dramedy, or even just a different type of school anime with some delinquent fights thrown into the mix sounds appealing. If you are a fan of GTO this is 100% worth giving a shot. If you don't like the first episode then I would say this show is not for you. The hour long episode 1 does a good job showing off what makes the show good, and introduces you to most of the main cast. I have been on a retro anime kick recently, and I am glad that I gave this series a shot.

Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! is an absolute gem in the world of comedy anime, delivering non-stop laughs and memorable moments from start to finish. This series follows the hilarious misadventures of two unlikely friends, Takashi and Shinji, as they navigate the turbulent waters of adolescence with their own unique brand of charm and ineptitude. What sets Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! apart is its brilliant blend of slapstick humor, witty dialogue, and endearing character dynamics. Takashi and Shinji's bumbling attempts to carve out a place for themselves in their new school and the world at large are equal parts relatable and uproarious. Whether they're stumbling into absurdsituations or inadvertently causing chaos wherever they go, their antics never fail to elicit genuine laughter. Moreover, the supporting cast is equally delightful, with each character adding their own eccentric flair to the mix. From the suave delinquent Mitsuhashi to the eccentric martial artist Itou, every member of the ensemble contributes to the series' comedic brilliance in their own unique way. But what truly makes Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! shine is its heart. Beneath the layers of absurdity and comedic chaos lies a touching story about friendship, loyalty, and the trials of growing up. Despite their flaws and foibles, Takashi and Shinji's bond remains the beating heart of the series, grounding the humor in genuine emotion and adding depth to their characters. In short, Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! is a must-watch for any fan of comedy goofy anime. With its sharp wit, lovable characters, and heartwarming themes, it's a hilarious roller-coaster ride that will leave you grinning from ear to ear. So buckle up and prepare for a wild journey filled with laughter, because once you step into Takashi and Shinji's world, you won't want to leave.

This piece of pure, exciting and truly not-so-unique, yet good take on delinquent comedy truly deserves 10/10. Story : 7/10 This anime didn't have best of story, but it delivers a better taking on delinquency of high school boys with two new transfer student. Both of them met day before school debut with an aim to become full delinquent. And after that by many comedic scenes, they both become very well know in there area. As a result everyday comes with new challenges. They met friends and foe, with love angels and entertain us with comedy and friendship. Though if you take Mitsuhashi as a friend, you aredone. Not believing me, just ask Imai from Beni High. Art : 8/10 Since this show is a '90s, art aren't like todays, but perfectly fits for enjoyment. This show have one thing that every comedy anime must have - comedic expressions. And when I say expressions belive me. From episode 1 to 10, you will be entertained with good art and funny faces. Characters : 10/10 If I had more than 10 fav characters option in MAL free account, Mitsuhashi would have been one of them. He is fun. He plays dirty - when I say dirty it's really dirty. But it's all for the win. He is one hell of a idiot with tsundre type caring heart. Then come Itou to complement Mitsuhashi. Itou is kinda pure hearted delinquent who love to fight fair. He has a girl to make Mitsuhashi jealous when our idiot didn't even understand he also (nearly) has one. Itou is a good character to brought Mitsuhashi full throttle. This duo cannot be complete without anyone's absence. And then comes Beni high boss Imai and his sidekick Tanigawa. Imai always chase Mitsuhashi and bring lots of funny situations where he always dance under Mitsuhashi's thumb. There are other good characters also. But I have to say if Mitsuhashi's heroine Riko had more role to play, then it would have been very satisfying. Enjoyment : 10/10 I always want good things to stay forever. When I was in ep 9 and remember that it will finish in ep 10, I was disheartened. You can understand how great an comedy centric anime it is, when you just want to just wish to watch it forever. Overall : 10/10 It is a great anime which deserves 10/10. Period.

If you're looking for a gritty and realistic look into the life of a high school delinquent in Japan then you are in the wrong place. In fact, our two main characters aren't even true delinquents. However, that doesn't stop them from gaining the reputation as the most badass duo to walk the earth as they trample over their competition with unwavering confidence, brute strength, cunning and a helluva lot help from luck and the blunders of Katsutoshi Imai. Despite its rather simple nature, Kyou kara Ore wa is an exceptional anime. Kyou kara Ore wa is about two high schoolers who, upon moving to anew school decide to reinvent themselves as delinquents. To make matters more interesting, they both figure out that the other is faking from the start and stumble their way into a confrontation with their high school's delinquent gang. This is only the first of many encounters the two face as their reputation and "bad boy" personas spiral out of control. The show is primarily an episodic format, but there are often little bits of subplot that carry across the episodes. Its episodes are also longer than traditional anime episodes, likely due to it being an OVA. Although far from realistic, the story is captivating, thrilling and filled with humor. The format and pacing are also extremely well done. There are enough episodic plot points in each episode to keep things fresh and also enough overarching plot to keep you coming back episode after episode. The show contains mini story arcs where the main duo face of with new opponents and every one of these arcs is thoroughly entertaining. This show was made in the 90's where animation technology wasn't as developed and shows were animated essentially by hand. This can result in some pretty ugly looking shows if down poorly but when a studio goes all out, the result is animation that I personally far prefer to the comparably lifeless anime being produced in mass today. Considering this shows ten episodes were slowly released over a period of 5 years, uuuhh ya I think we can say they took the time to do it right. Although not flawless the animation in this show is top notch. There are choppy bits here and there but overall the studio did a fantastic job. The sound didn't really leave much of an impact on me. I hardly noticed the score the voice acting was pretty yelly most of the time, but decent overall and the sound effects seemed pretty mediocre. In particular the sounds of the characters punches were quite cartoony, but for me personally, it only added to the character of the show. I love the characters in this show. In the 90's dere tropes weren't really a thing yet. I'm not saying we've got some of the most original characters ever but they do seem a lot less tired out then say, the extreme tsundere with pink twin tales. The ways in which the different personalities and quirks of the various characters slam into each other is extremely well done and adds a lot to the narrative and subplot. I could go on about the specific characters but I think it'd just be better for you to go and experience them for yourself. It's hard not to enjoy such a well-crafted show. It has action, drama and a sprinkle of romance. I'd be tempted to rate it higher, but like I said earlier it a fairly basic show. It does a great job in every category but at the same time, I feel it falls a bit short of what could be called a "masterpiece" due to its lack of ambition. Despite the fact, that it didn't survive long enough to truly develop, and give us more time with the characters, Kyou kara Ore wa is an incredible anime that deserves more attention then it gets.

I enjoyed this anime and don't regret watching it, but am unsure if I'll remember a lot of it in a few months as it's largely carried by it's main protagonist, Mitsuhashi. Mitsuhashi is, usually, a jerk with a heart of gold, and a somewhat hyperactive one at that,. This character archetype can be rather difficult to pull off well as you a bit too often these types of characters' jerkass antics cease to be entertaining and start to become grating, but luckily Mitsuhashi doesn't fall into that. His antics, and the comedy style of the series as a whole, do start to become ratherpredictable but it's still entertaining enough. I never felt bored watching it. His supporting cast, however, is rather bland by comparison. His best friendemy and "secondary protagonist," Itou, is cool and serves his role as the straightman to Mitsuhashi's antics well, but I didn't feel he did much of interest. The comic relief duo Imai and Tanigawa aren't too bad but Imai's antics became very predictable by the end and I also found Imai's tough idiot schtick slightly grating towards the end. The 2 female leads, Riko and Kyoko aren't bad either, but the former is a pretty standard action girl and the other is a pretty standard moral compass of sorts for Itou. This may have been intentional, as a more grounded supporting cast is likely justified so they can play of Mitsuhashi, but they all sadly feel a bit too firmly in the background. The show has a rotating cast of antagonists throughout the series, most of which aren't too memorable. Not helping this is most of them are one-offs, so they simply don't have much a chance to make a lasting impression. I do feel one antagonist, Sagara, is an exception to this, and he is also the only one to reappear in any form beyond a cameo after his character arc. He's a pretty solid foil to Mitsuhashi, just as dirty and batshit insane but seemingly lacking the same humanity, I really would have liked to see more of him. The story is pretty simple but told well enough. I do wish there had been more in the way of actual arcs but the largely one-off format is fine. The ending is very unfulfilling though, I suspect due to the manga it was adapting not being completed at the time the OVA ended. On a technical level, the animation and music are pretty good by 90s standards and hasn't aged poorly or anything. The fighting scenes, in particular, still look good. The soundtrack doesn't have any tracks that really stood out to me aside from the ear worm of an ED theme that it has, which I sadly can't seem to find anywhere, but it was used well and the songs were never bad or out of place. Overall, I'd say this is a series to watch if you have time to do so. It's nothing groundbreaking by any means but it'll likely hold your attention while you watch it and, of course, you may end up enjoying it more than I did.

"you are my friend but if things get worse, i don't know you" this line that you will hear during the ending theme of each episode, summarize the philosophy of our heroes(or should i say our villains ). i find myself obligated to write a review about this awesome OVA since it passes under the radar of so many people, i discovered this hidden gem lately and i am glad i watched it . this anime isn't about cute girls with magical powers or teenagers piloting giant robots to save the world or some overpowered kids who embark in an epic quest ,no,it is all about bromance, delinquents gangs, bad boys beating the crap out of each other , slapstick comedy and hilarious situations in order to summarize it, do you remember slam dunk? do you remember when sakuragi and his gang were goofing around and going in some crazy adventures ? now imagine a spin-off that focuses on these adventures and the result would be this OVA. the story revolves around mitsuhashi and ito two transfer students who trying to make name for themselves by becoming delinguent in their new school so one of them dyed his hair blonde and the other make his hair like a porcupine spikes,at first they didn't get along due to their opposite personalities then they became friends and form a formidable team that strikes fear in the heart of other delinquents ,the story is episodic and most of these episodes aren't connected but who cares it's still funny as hell ,it will begin with fighting delinquents gang in their high school then fighting the most formidable high school gang in the town and finally they will get involved in a feud with the yakuza, the story doesn't take itself too seriously at all, except for some serious moments that will turn into a big laugh because of mitsuhashi witty tricks or imai stupidity. like any comedy the characters are the most important thing here, they aren't deep or complex ,they don't have epic quest or dark past but they are funny and likable , first you've got mitsuhashi and ito they are complete opposite to each other ito is fair and honorable, he fights like a man and never take opportunities or use dirty tricks, while mitsuhashi (the blonde wolf ) is dishonorable, tricky and opportunistic he will never waste any chance to backstab his opponent or use any available object to defeat his opponents ,he is a coward who prefers easy victory or escape instead of hard victory and has no problem abandoning his friends when the need call for that,he is not a bad person though since he abandoned some of his principales to save his friends on some occasions ,imai is an unlucky idiot with a heart of gold, ,his stupidity and cluelessness along with mitsuhashi antics are the main source of comedy here , all the other characters aren't all that important since they will only appear for one or two episodes. the animation is outdated it isn't all that great by today standard( i don't have any problem with that) ,the character design is like any old school anime , the boys look like boys (actually some of them look like fully grown men in their thirties) the girls look cute and pretty my only complain is the lack of diversity ,many characters look similar ,they even have the same haircut . the voice acting is amazing they managed to make the jokes funnier and added more personality to the characters. the soundtrack is nothing special ,the ending song is funny though. overall this anime among the best i've seen ,it is funny and hilarious, there is no anime that make me laugh so much like that since slam dunk,we need more animes like this. recomended for retro anime fans(especially 90's anime) , slam dunk fans are going to like this so much.

Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! (KKOW) I recently watched this 10 Episode OVA series about a month ago; and really enjoyed it, it was reminiscent of Great Teacher Onizuka, Beelzebub, and many other Delinquent-styled anime. The length of it is a great thing; each episode varies in length therefore on average they are 43 minutes per episode, some are 60 minutes and some are 35 minutes. Story : 9/10 The story is mainly about Mitsuhashi and Itou as they pretend to be delinquents, it can be funny at times, and at other times it has a good plot however the plot is usually episodic (only lasting one episode ata time, however develops the characters). There was atleast one Arc i would say, that was a story where it was more than one episode consisting of the same story (it took more episodes and time to fill it in). Art: 8/10 The art isn't the best, however this is an older series released between 1993-1996, therefore the art is okay for it's days and doesn't deteriorate the quality of the show. Sound: 9/10 I do not speak Japanese; however i feel that the Voice actors potrayed each character very well and it made the experience much more enjoyable, there is subtle background or theme music i remember too that was enjoyable. Character: 10/10 They really do a great job of developing the main characters Mitsuhashi and Itou. It becomes extremely enjoyable every time you here someone scream "Mitsuhashi!". There is also alot of side-characters that were developed well that make this anime alot more enjoyable such as Imai of Beni High. Enjoyment: 9/10 Honestly, this anime OVA series was really good especially since it is easily over 20 years old from now and i just watched it less than a month ago. I still was able to get tons of enjoyment out of it, as i said earlier its similar to other delinquent anime and kind of reminds me of Great Teacher Onizuka. I'm very glad i watched this series and i highly suggest you do too.

Do you like watching high schoolers beating each other to a pulp while having a laugh at it? Well my friend, I got the perfect gift for you, even if it comes wrapped somewhat messily (cringy analogy). So anyway, let’s get the technical aspects out of the way, shall we? Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! is a 90’s action comedy made by Pierrot, which means that the art style is bland and the animation is passable at best. The sound and the voice acting is also nothing to write home about and the absence of an opening is a little disappointing. The best aspect about it isthe well-choreographed fighting scenes (that’s what we are here for anyway), even if some recycled bits are thrown here and there. So visually, there’s really nothing interesting here, but aside from that, is the anime good? I do think so. Like I said, the fighting scenes are genuinely exciting to watch and it doesn’t fail as a comedy either, with several humorous sitcom moments to even things up (without laugh tracks of course). The pacing is also well balanced. The show doesn’t simply jump from one fight to another, but instead leaves room for you to breath offering some relaxing Rumiko Takahashi-esque slice of life scenes where we can observe the character’s interactions and the situations they get themselves involved (yes it has some sort of romance and yes I use parenthesis a lot). That’s a very nice touch considering that each episode ranges from 35 min to 1 hour long but you barely notice its length. Oh… Right, this is also a 90’s show made for young boys, meaning that underage gang members will spread chaos and violence across the city with the police or whoever is responsible for minor thugs doing little to nothing to stop them. The best dojo in the world is also located in this town apparently since all of them seem to know Jackie Chan moves and have the resistance of professional heavy-weight boxers, so you know what to do if your disbelief, right? The characters are likeable, but superficial. Although the main duo dynamic is really entertaining to watch, there’s never a deep feeling of development or inner change, but in my opinion that help keeps the light tone of the show. Because that’s what it is. A good old-fashioned shonen to watch before bed or whenever you want to just chill. So yeah… Ratings. If I had to take a more objective stance I’d probably give it a six, because even if the anime is pretty self-aware of it is, it isn’t terribly memorable and we also have to take into consideration its more mediocre aspects. HOWEVER, I honestly prefer rating based on enjoyment cause I’m always struggling with this numerical system and since nostalgia is poking me consistently in the back as I’m writing this review (the show practically screams River City Ransom and even Yu Yu Hakusho to a certain extent, another show from the same studio but better animated and I swear this is the last parenthesis) I’ll raise it to a seven.

Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! When i was watching KKOW i realised that i've seen this in my childhood but just the first 3 episodes and i just felt happy to see this, because i never knew the name of the anime and all of a sudden i was watching something that i was looking for a long time and i have to write that you should watch this masterpiece too. Story The story is about two boys that decided to be delinquents because they wanted to change from how they were in the past, at first they didn't liked each other but somehow they end up being friends, they always get in trouble being Mitsuhashi the one who attracts all kind of trouble to their lifes, they will fight school gangs, and they will be recognized by everyone to be the toughest delinquents not only of Nanyou High School but of Chiba. Art & Animation Well the animation is from the 90's but that didn't matter for me, i thought that, that was great back then and i think the same now, but sometimes the drawing looks weird. Sound The music was outstanding, the voice acting was great, the background sound and music was really enjoyable and nostalgic, even tho this doesn't have an OP song, it has a damn funny ED song. Character I've got to point out that i liked a lot the characters, from Mitsuhashi to Nakano, every one was likeable in their own way, and i never feel attachment to many support characters, but with this one you want to see everyone appear, even the bad guys, like Nakano or the twins, i wanted to see more of Riko interacting with Mitsuhashi, for some reason i felt that in the beginning he was interested in her but all of a sudden he doesn't care about her but she still has a crush on him, didn't understand that change but the development of all the characters was outstanding. Enjoyment Since the beginning i was hooked to this anime, you will laugh a lot, you definitely will love the fight scenes, you will love the characters and will want more episodes, i wanted to see more because the ending was unsatisfying for me, but that means i loved it, it was outstanding, you should definitely watch KKOW right away.

Kyou kara Ore wa!! Is another delinquent anime, but a real good one. I am a sucker for anime about delinquents for example Yu Yu Hakusho , GTO, Shonan Junai Gumi(the prequel to GTO), and Tenjou Tenge. Kyou kara Ore wa is closer to the likes of Shonan Junai Gumi and the beginning of Yu Yu hakusho. This Ova though holds its own against all those anime mentioned earlier which is not easy to do. Anyways onto the review; Story: The story does not have an overall plot or big arc story-line that it follows, it is more like an episodic anime. The anime startswith the two main characters entering a new school but want to change their image to bad-boys or delinquents . The kick is they never met each other until recently and they don't really get along at first. Even though the anime might be episodic it does not feel like your normal episodic anime because they have so much going on every episode, that your wondering how did they end up from point A the beginning of the episode to point G at the end of the episode. The two main characters get themselves in some ridiculous situations which are hilarious. The story also has really good humor, it is clean, fun and does not rely on toilet jokes or gross stuff. The slapstick humor part is done right and not overplayed. First episode felt like a movie ( it was an hour long) because of all of the things going on and your glued to your seat to see what happens next. Even with all the humor it also has some great fight scenes and some serious moments also.It Also has a little bit of romance. Animation: Since it is an ova the animation has better quality than if it would have been a regular TV series. I really enjoyed the fight scenes which were done really nice. It does have that 90's animation that I enjoy. Studio Pierrot did the animation they also did the animation for GTO so both anime have similar animation and character designs. The two main characters designs almost made me not want to watch the anime especially Itou's design mostly the hair due which Ill talk about later. It wasn't that the designs were bad it just made them look goofy and hard to take them serious but I believe that's what the original author had in mind. Sound: Probably the weakest part of the anime only due to the fact they did not have an opening song and the ending theme song I didn't really like. Other than that though the background music in scenes matched up perfectly to what was happening during the anime. The Voice Actors were top notch and they really added to the humor of the show. Characters: I certainly believe that good character development is what makes a decent anime turn into a great anime. This is the case with Kyou kara Ore wa, it has great characters and they are developed well through. The first episode does a great job developing the main characters and it even starts developing secondary characters for later on. The main character Mitsuhashi, Takashi wants to be have a bad boy image at his new school so he gets his hair permed and dyed to blonde. He is most known for his dirty fighting techniques but is also very strong. The other MC is Itou, Shinji he also wants a bad boy image before he goes to his new school so he gets his hair spiked to ridiculous lengths. Before watching the anime I thought Itou looked really lame because of the hair but after the watching the first episode he becomes my favorite character(don't judge a book by its cover lol). Itou does not fight dirty he fights straight forward and fair and is also very strong, but fighting fair can get him in trouble sometimes. Even though Itou is my favorite character I relate more to Mitsuhashi because he fights dirty and I also use to fight dirty in middle school and high school that's probably one of the reasons I really liked this anime. There is also a really good supporting cast but I am only going to talk about a certain supporting member his name is Imai and this guy is bat shit crazy and funny. Imai is from a different school than the Main Characters and Imai is the best fighter that school has. Imai is really strong and good looking but also really stupid and sometimes you think the only person that can beat him up is himself. Imai gets himself in some weird and hilarious situations usually due to the MCS themselves. Enjoyment: You know how some people say you have wait for a certain anime to get good for example "just wait till episode 5 that's when it really picks up" this ova is not like that from episode 1 you are hooked and wanting more. This series could of gone 100 episodes and I would have watched every episode, which they could have done since the manga is 30 something volumes. All ten episodes of this ova stay fresh and exciting which is rare for an anime to do. I am definitely going to pick up the manga after this and I suggest the few that are reading this to pick up Kyou kara Ore wa!! Ova. You wont regret it, because its one of the funniest anime I have watched.
