Synopsis
In the American city of Snowfield, a new Holy Grail War is about to erupt. Such ruthless confrontations pit against each other magic experts known as magi, who ascend to the status of Master by summoning Servants—heroic spirits of the past. The winner is thought to have any one of their wishes granted. However, it appears that the organization behind the present situation has merely managed to create an imperfect copy of the Third Holy Grail War. As the unusual ritual catches the attention of the Mage's Association in London, Flatt Escardos, the young apprentice of Lord El-Melloi II—a former participant of the Fourth Holy Grail War—travels to Snowfield and, to the great dismay of his teacher, joins the ranks of the Masters. In this fake conflict where the line between Masters and Servants is blurred, the different factions will have a hard time preventing the city of Snowfield from plunging into total chaos. Guys, you don't get it! Arthur is so hot, I want to slobber on his balls and make him my slave! I never liked Fate, it had decent animation and really kick-ass hot characters who I'd let them kill me anyday of my life...... but I like some meat and intrigue in my anime husbandos and waifus. Thankfully, while this re-iteration lacks in macho action(for now), it very well makes up for it with amazing political intrigue and a really intricate set of characters who will be set through the ringer some time soon. Also, I somewhat like that twink Enkidu and gay ass Gilgamesh hasmade a return. As someone who has read the Song of Gilgamesh, I ship them harder than Gojo and Geto. I digress, the animation is even better, because I actually like probably animated frames over the over-stimulation of colour by Ufotable. The cinematography, the direction of Shun Enokido and Takahito Sakazume, the glorious sound design by Masanori Tsuchiya, the staff is star-studded with industry legends ready to flex even more than the previous TV Special which made me bust. Male Arthur>Female Arthur. Also I will jump if the Assassin died.

If this was the fake, I don't think I want to see the real thing. The art work is nothing to write home about. It's about the same old-same old for the franchise. I did like some of the background stuff. But the animation was the epitome of flashy trash. Lots of color, and camera angles jumping around during the big battle. But if you looked past that, the rest was less than average. Half a notch above kid-vid. You'd think a franchise that has made this much money could do a lot better. Well, I am sure they could, but that would cut intoprofits. The characters are the usual cut/paste assortment they've been using for years. Not a smidge of anything original or new happening here. Just slap a new skin on the old animation, and push them out the door, as fast and cheaply as you can. Got the same impression from the VAs. They sounded like they were in a hurry to go get a bite at McDonald's. The direction is a study in inompetance. Especially where the soundtrack is concerned. I rarely mention that, but this one was so woefully abused and distracting, I'd be remiss if I let it slip. This left me screaming at twilight. Time forever lost, to yet another gambit, to fleece otakus from another yen. If I graded this prolog, it gets no better than 64/100 for a mere D. Doesn't bode well for the series.

If i was to compare this series to the rest of what fate has to offer, this would be the wierd middle child nobody quite understands. The animation isn't bad by any length, but it's clearly not ufotable. And it will never be ufotable. The most glaring issue i could see quite easily is the sound quality. They failed in quite a spectular manner in that regard. If you watched any ufotable fate entry you know what im talking about. Even the animation as good as it is(not as good as ufotable need i remind), it lacks that ...personal feel any encounter between 2 servants has.OF course, this was more of a pilot then anything,so the actual show/movie might be improved upon.... But even the story for this one is ...wierd? I for one especially got put off by that final scene with who is supposed to be the MC of this series. I might be looking too much into it, and i hope im wrong and it turns out good, but i'll keep my expectations to a low for the time being.

This series has surprises in store, even as it throws in a few familiar faces to keep things grounded. It also features some stellar animation in its fight scenes and backgrounds, really showcasing the budget A-1 Pictures brought to bear, even if it still feels a far cry from the many strengths of Ufotable's run with the series. It doesn't help that, during some of its quieter moments, this series makes some really odd and off-putting animation choices, and I just generally find it hard to get used to the way they've designed faces. Maybe that's just me. Anyway, with a 55 minute runtime, this wasalways going to be limited in what it could produce. I think it's a bit manic to be honest - it feels like it's trying to cover so much ground that it lacks any kind of dive into these characters and who they are. We have seen almost all of the servants at this point, but with only three identified and few of their masters having any real examination, there's a lot of ground to cover. This series ends up feeling like it's full of possibilities with its large and diverse cast, but has barely started flexing its muscles yet. It's still worth the watch - I'm personally very excited to see where this series will take me - but for now, it feels like we're just getting started.

"Fate Strange/Fake: Whispers of Dawn" is the prologue of the next Fate series installment. It takes place in a battleground town, ready for the next great Grail War. Each master and its servant are shown without hurry, with the first being Gilgamesh and Tine, a shy but bold girl. The known magician El Melloi is another character worth mentioning, and along with him we have Flatt Escardos, a boy that doesn't seem anything special at first sight; in one ocasion, he gets an artifact ignored by Melloi. Such item is responsible to the coming of Jack the Ripper, who didn't show much of his powerin that moment besides some tricks. In the last part, we have a brief conflict betwee Gilgamesh and Enkidu, that was stopped due to the presence of a sudden evil force. In the end, we see another master in the post credits. The animation is good, even though some characters have some weird expressions in some frames. The sakuga in fight and explosions was great, and so was the atmosphere in general. I hope the production gets even better in the anime. The sound is your typical Fate soundtrack, it sets an epic mood. All in all, I am looking forward to the Strange Fake series. I am a big TypeMoon fan and I'm always digging more of Nasuverse works. Thank you for reading.

The Fate series is like the infinite well of creativity of the anime world. Over the years, many different studios showed us their own spin on the franchise. And now, after the absolutely brilliant Apocrypha, the geniuses at A-1 pictures are at it again with another awesome spin off we were all patiently waiting for. Sadly, the series isn't out yet, but if the intro movie is anything to go by, then I can safely say that its going to be one of the greatest shows ever made (not that I expected anything else from A-1 pictures). The visuals are breathtaking, the new characters aredeep and innovative and as for the returning characters, there are many fan favourites to watch out for. I am glad that the Fate series is in such competent hands and I am eagerly awaiting its full release.

There's no way the show can keep up with the level of energy the ep 0 - so to say - brought to the table. Ofc coming from fate apocrypha and encore as the most recent entries this level of quality isn't necessarily surprising.. This show truly proves once again that fate IS that gift that keeps on giving. I personnaly don't even want to dare dream of a world where the hype of this first episode gets even surpassed by followig episodes. The future is looking rather bright with this one. As some general information: characters are great as always, atmosphere is peak fate stuff. The turning point comes towards the end of the episode when they suddenly decided to make possibly above one punch man level animations for an apetizer.

this has the potential to be the most interesting holy grail war yet. my favorite fate story is lostbelt 6 but this could be up there i really like the potential of the various servants, since there is way more than the usual seven. the masters themselves are also quite intriguing, with one of them being a dead apostle fan service of gil, enkidu, zelretch, waver was also so good the one thing i wished they showed is alcides; i wished to have seen his blackening process animation quality is superb even if it wasn't by ufotable can't wait for the full drop, and i hope it doesn't turn into apocrypha

Admittedly I wasn’t aware this was a prologue/introduction for an anime (which has only just been announced as of writing this), so I was a bit confused by the methodical pace when watching. After all, Fake was apparently an April Fools’ joke that was made real, so I was expecting a little cheeky hour-long animation of that and that’s it. But this felt like it was taking itself as an actual story seriously, which I think is (ironically) a funny way to present jokes like this. However, I was admittedly confused at everything that was going on. Almost everyone speaks verbosely, terms are thrownaround, characters are cut to, and relationships are revealed in a way that was pretty hard to follow for me (and in a way I don’t remember the other Fate introductions being). Maybe I've just been out of Fate for too long or missed a few too many spin-offs that are prerequisites. It probably all comes together in hindsight once you watch the actual TV series at least? It’s nice to see who the characters are going to be this time around. But personally I didn’t get much out of watching it alone simply a taste of what’s to come.

Oh look, We got another Fate. Not like we don't have much that or anything. I vividly remember, when I completed Heavens Feel 2 and thought, "Damn! I should binge the third movie rn!" Only to realize I've to wait for nearly 1 more year for the third feel movie (this was also the same time I was waiting for Dawn of the Deep Soul). And this happened nearly... 3 years ago?! Wtf? Was it already 3 years from the pandemic? ... Anyway, I'm feeling a very similar emotion with Strange Fake. I didn't expect much when the announcement was made nearly 3 seasons ago but after watching this,I kind of wanna see where this'll go. But of course, there's always one burning question regarding Fate, that I'm pretty sure even typemoon can never answer. Where do I start? Now there are many people n forums n sites that do wayy better job at this than I do, but since I'm kinda bored, I'll try to assume a few of your thought process on why you might've wanted to get into Fate. But here's a rule I followed that made my life easier when getting into Fate; Just because someone's recommending it, doesn't mean it's necessary. Most anime recommendations of Fate are basically telling, "In this way, you won't be having trouble", which is a very false statement when getting into Fate Anime. The only way everyone collectively agreed but still ignored is to "Read the Visual Novel", which most anime-only won't commit because it takes like a 100 hours, and a day doesn't have 100 hours. With that aside; (Assuming you are new); You: I've never consumed a single piece of media regarding Fate Me: Good. Let's keep it that way. - I only want to watch this because of this one random clip I saw on YT (or something). If you promise me that you won't get into this series or anything regarding Fate ever again, then go ahead. But I'm placing my bets most of you are going get into. Eventually. - Is this special standalone? Yes, you shouldn't have a problem following what's happening in this special But many spinoffs of Fate kind of assume that you are familiar with the franchise, because they do such a shit job at explaining plot points. They just info dump it in a couple of minutes, while Fate/Zero takes nearly 3 episodes to do that. Basically, the narration won't be a problem but some plot points might not make sense without prior knowledge. - Is there anything I have to watch before watching Strange Fake? If you have watched every Fate made by ufotable (i.e., Zero, Unlimited Blade Works & Heaven's Feel), you are good to watch any spinoff you want. There isn't any particular order for watching spinoffs. (Assuming you watched all the ufotable ones) Maybe watch Lord El-Melloi case files (I should watch this too) and Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia to understand what's Waver is doing here all grown-up and a small background between Gilgamesh & Enkidu. The fake Holy Grail War in Strange Fake doesn't have a Saber in it, and you don't need those incarnation circles to summon legends. And instead of Japan, this war is happening in Snowfield, USA. This special is like a prologue. Being a special in Fate, the animation is top notch. The entire segment with Gil and Enkidu is a visual eye candy, and there are a bunch of other moments that were neatly packed in a 50 minute special. What I'm really looking forward to is the plot. Holy Grail war opens the curtain for some interesting ideas. You have legends with their larger than life personalities stealing every moment they are in and you have mages in a cat-&-mouse battle royale. With nearly 20 characters, and this entry being written by the same guy behind Baccano! and Durarara!!, I'm kinda excited to see his spin on Fate. Conclusion Hope this helped.

I gotta admit, every time Gilgamesh show up on screen, I always grinning like a fool. I still can't believe this thing was first created as an April's fool joke. The writer of durarara and baccano is really talented to create a masterpiece, my favorite masterpiece! In my opinion, A1 manage to portray Gilgamesh, my,ours and fans favorit really well. The pacing feels rush but this is the prologue and only one episode so it's understandable. There is some rough animation here and there, but that also logical remembering the deadline and budget. After all, they will animate solo leveling. Hiroyuki sawano master piece when gil and enkidu clashes their Babylon portal was 10/10. But one thing is bugging me, Gilgamesh and enkidu's fight was supposed to be the lime light, the main part of the special. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful, magnificent, truly transcendent. But, it was short in my opinion. There is so much potential, Soo much thing can be done, but alas. It was short, so short that it was almost disappointing for me. But overall, I recommend this stuff, I give it 9/10!!

Fate/Strange Fake is finally here in an animated form, and as a huge fan of the LNs (the ongoing manga's great too!) I'm more than stoked. Plenty of other people have talked about various aspects done right or wrong with 'Whispers of Dawn'. I have a special factor I'd like to focus on: The SOUNDTRACK! It's one of the main reasons I like this special so much. Sure, some people might miss the Kajiura-esque fanfares and epicness. However, this approach wouldn't really fit F/SF. The OST we experience here is perfectly fitting - both to the unorthodox location of this warped Holy Grail War (the USA), andto many of the Servant/Master interactions. The sound design isn't pompous and too refined. It is, however, tailored to the scenes where it makes the most impact and flows seamlessly from introduction to introduction. I was caught off guard on how much it just...made sense, and how much it amplified me finally seeing F/SF animated. Kudos to everyone involved! Onto the other stuff: PACING/CONCEPTS 'Whispers of Dawn' is pretty much a quick introduction of (most) of the main characters we'll be seeing from now on. Some parts were rushed too much, but overall I feel they've done a great part. If this is your first Fate installment, or you've stuck mainly to Fate/Stay Night -- don't worry about not catching all of the little details. F/SF draws heavier into the wider Nasuverse, spreading even to some concepts more prominent in adjacent franchises like Tsukihime. Just have fun; things will start making sense eventually or you'll start digging up some additional lore. Yes, you won't get everything and that's OK. F/SF is ULTRA fun even without this. Mr. Narita is a masterful writer of huge character casts, as evidenced by his previous works. Thus, even at the special's compressed pace, the Fate/Zero approach to Master/Servant introductions works quite well. With brevity in dialogue and non-verbal communication, Narita paints the quirks and specific qualities of every character involved in the Snowfield war. ANIMATION QUALITY There are some obviously jarring scenes in terms of animation. I expected this, so I wasn't too disappointed. To be frank, they weren't TOO numerous and were balanced out by some unexpectedly great shots and an overall stellar approach to motion/scenery/details. I don't think anybody expected something groundbreaking; this is a special that tests the waters for the upcoming anime series after all. I dig the overall color palette and light/shadows. There's something charismatic in the overall animation feel. I've put an 8/10, but frankly I was torn between giving it a 8.5ish or so too. It's definitely a must watch for any Fate fan; and a fun intro for people who aren't that familiar with the Fate franchise. F/SF is such a riot that even going in blind will turn out to be exciting once the anime rolls out too. A nice hook into Fate's best spin-off, and Mr. Narita's Snowfield wild ride, with all its quirks and chaos!

Honestly, if this was my first Fate anime or even if I'm someone who is a Fate fan but watching it blind without prior knowledge of the LN or Manga, I would love this anime, especially because I'm such a big fan of Enkidu & Gilgamesh dynamic from the Grand Order series. But unfortunately, I've read both the manga and LN before, and currently I have mixed feelings about this anime, especially because they left out on huge chunk of information & scenes that are just my favorite. So, here are some things that I love & hate from the first episode. First, the animation. I don'tknow how they did it, but I absolutely love and hate it at the same time. My problem is not in the style of animation itself, because they resemble the manga pretty spot on, it's in how still/stiff the camera angles & animation are, and how the gap between the animation of characters & background seems jarring. For example, in the beginning after Tinè summons Gilgamesh, there's a scene where they walk outside the cave together, and I can't belive how they just don't match the speed of how the background move vs the speed of how the characters walk. Gil's movement looks like a bulky robot learning to walk while Tinè basically just glide without ever talking a step!!! There's also moments where the camera works are just so awful, that my eyes are drawn to the beautiful background instead of whatever the characters are doing at the moment, because they're so out of the frame, they're not even the focus of the camera. I do have to say though, the details in this anime is amazing. There's nothing that are badly drawn, and even the background characters look great. There are also those flash-moments that just makes the scenes all the more dramatic, and great easter egg for those that know the series before. It is a pain to pause & repeat every 5 minutes cause I don't want to miss anything though XD Now for story telling, what I love is how they're able to keep the changing in P.O.V seamless and not at all awkward, and how whenever any information is presented, it's done in a way that makes it easy for us to digest. They also does not dumb down everything for the watchers, making the animation explain things to us. As for what I hate.... it's in how much information they took. Like, I understand the need to cut some things down. Heck, the Gil & Enkidu fight only happened in volume 2 of the manga. But, the fact that they don't even do simple introduction like those "name box + position/title" that are typical for animes is a bit too much. At this point, we would end the entire series without knowing half of the cast names 🫠 Also, I won't say much as to spoiler, but I really hope they would give us more character context in the future episodes, or at lease revisit their background. Cause if they immediately skip past it and into the action/main scenes, I would bet that all anime-watchers-only would be confused out of their mind. It doesn't have to be ALL backstory, just the masters would be more than enough. Lastly, this is personal bias, cause I'm a HUGE Enkidu fan, but they really did my clay so dirty 🥲. Not to mention, they cut short Gilgamesh & Enkidu interaction during the fight!!! It's should have been the peak of the episode, not something that is "something short just to wrap this with a bang" kind of fight :(( So yeah, I can't belive I made an account just to review this anime. I'll rate this anime 8/10 first, because I still have some hopes for this one XD

Finally!!! After Fate/Apocrypha, my expectations from the Fate franchise had dwindled. Then came the brilliant "Heaven's Feel" trilogy and I found myself lamenting the end of the story when the credits rolled for the final film. Fast-forward to the MLA notification about Fate/Strange Fake. I dared to think that maybe, just maybe I'll be treated to another Fate extravaganza which would remind me of the likes of Fate/Zero. (I should add that I haven't seen Fate/Grand Order so do forgive me if I'm not giving it the praise it may deserve) The story behind (not of) Fate/Strange Fake is quite the amusing one. What began asan April Fool's joke soon blossomed into this wonderfully original idea. Well, not exactly original but the introduction of the servants, their respective masters and a general foundation of what is to come is one that I haven't seen in the other stories. My appetite for Fate has well and truly been revived. And I look forward to seeing if the story matches the prologue.
senjougahara86
I have never watched Fate/ Strange Fake of its original light novel version, and I've no clue how good the the rest of the series will be. However, there is one thing I'm sure of, and that is Fate/ Strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn just by this special episode is probably the peek of the entire Fate series. 10/10 ⭐️, that's how gorgeous its made in my opinion, but until an hour ago, I hadn't been looking forward to seeing it coming. The art style is just not my type. Now I regretted judging the book by its cover. The different art style just makeit special, reminding me that I wasn't familiar with many anime artist e.g. One Piece or even Fate/Stay night, and gems will always shine. But just to let anyone who sees my review know, Fate/ Strange Fake might not suit non-Fate fans favour. I enjoy it a lot because I have already understood the world building of Fate, and have even seen some of the characters from the other anime franchises say Fate/Zero, Fate/Apocrypha and FGO. If this was my first time being into the world of Type-Moon (Fate), I'm not sure whether I will enjoy that much. Like Fate/Stay Night, I had hard time finishing the anime watching some random characters fighting for an unknown reason, despite it being well written with some unique plot twists. But that is the fun part too, understanding the game, different stories behind the Holy Grail Wars. Good news to people who approach Fate the first time, FSF has a lot clearer storyline then Fate/Stay Night does. It has already outlined the purposes of characters who joined the war and what the wars is about in the beginning, so the upcoming TV adaptation will just be how the war goes and some explanation of the Holy Grail. Production quality. One of the best made anime with everything good. Well-knit plot, well written script so far, nice directing, amazing art, top tier sound effects. Sawano Hiroyuki for the music. Just flawless production. Will the rest of the series be as good? I can't tell because the beginning of Holy Grail Wars are usually hyped with charcters showing their abilities and power. But if the rest are produced with similar quality, it's going to be at least 9/10 as the original light novel itself has some good reputation I have heard. So yeah can't wait to see the TV adaptation.

Another Fate anime, but we still get a whole episode of build up and intros for masters and their servants. In all seriousness, I'm giving this a 9 because I see the potential of how all the character's ideologies will clash in crazy ways. It's a fun first episode full of action, betrayal, and a great tone setter. Not too much more for now since we don't know much about any of the servants for now. The music was mostly nothing worth noting except for 2 vocal tracks that were very excellent. Animation was above average, but the art style was truly unique and memorable. It's written by the author of Durarara so I have high expectations of a story with many groups with many method to achieve their goals. A full series has been announced already, but we'll see how that goes since the source material is yet to be finished as of this review.

Look it's a TV Special. It's practically the prologue for the upcoming Fate Strange Fake Anime Series. Episode 0 we can say. Let's not expect much of a conclusion from this. Was it good? Yes, it did its job introducing the Servants, Masters and our Boy Gilgamesh. Storywise, I'd say it did a very interesting take on the Holy grail war, a war based in AMERICA? Why has this not been done before?? I think it was a great introduction for the characters, obviously not a lot shown, understandable given its very limited runtime but its enough. And the voice acting is AMAZING. But easilythe best part for is the Animation, so many different animation styles, which reminded me of Apocrypha (just without the stillshots), honestly MOVIE level animation. A-1 really did good work with this. Story 8/10 (understandable, we barely know anything, doesn't mean its bad. We must simply wait for the Series to begin) Animation/Art (10/10) A-1 put in their A team (heh) into this. Beautiful all around, especially during that fight scene. the BACKGROUNDS my god, breathtaking. Music (8/10) not a lot of soundtracks shown, but for what its worth, they were pretty good. Rap during the Enkidu vs Gilgamesh fight is an interesting choice. Characters (10/10), all the characters I got shown seemed so interesting to me. Jack the ripper is a really interesting take from the Legend, and the blonde MC is surprisingly very likable. Cant comment too much without spoiling, but the characters felt really great, and I was never bored or annoyed by a character being shown onscreen. If I were to put score this as a Prologue episode, which it is. And how well it did it job as a prologue I would give it a 9. Im extremely excited for the series. Until next time

Ahh Strange Fake, the Holy Grail War, with a twist. 8/10 overall. Going into this special, I'm not sure what I was expecting from A-1 Pictures given most of the Fate franchise has wow'd me from Ufotable's production team, but I am not disappointed. We witness a unique twist in this grail war in that it does not initiate in the standard ways we have seen before... Also it leaves one to question, who is in charge, the Master or the Servants? The animation was top tier, perhaps not ufotable level but great non the less, my only gripe in that department is the weird nosesthey decided to go with on several characters, but yeah I know, the anime industry can't make up it's mind on how to draw/animate noses even in 2023. Some of our headliner servants taking the stage (as shown in Characters & Voice Actors on this animes MAL page) include the King of all Hero's! None other than Gilgamesh! And his faithful green haired sidekick! Although this time around, I don't foresee their relationship to be exactly.... amicable. Gilgamesh never ceases to amaze me with his personality and kingliness. Many of the other servants have undisclosed true names in this special, but you can pretty much guess who they are if you are a real fate fan/play FGO/ read VNs. Regardless, I'm sure that info will be revealed in the next installation of this Grail War. Plot wise, This is summing up to be definitely one of the most interesting Holy Grail Wars, especially in the sense of it can go any direction because the typical rules just don't seem to apply, at least not yet. I can also say that the pre-war build up in Strange Fake has been the most spicy in my opinion, but I won't spoil you with those details! This special ends right around the time this Holy Grail war starts, so it leaves viewers with most of the juicy content to look forward to later. Anyways, I don't usually write long boring reviews with fancy words to woo you into watching anime, So I'll just end with this.. When you are listing your must watch Fate franchise paths, (FSN UBW/FZ/FGO/HF etc... you are going to include SF)
