Synopsis
Kenma Kozume has never considered volleyball fun or thrilling: it is merely something he is good at. But now Nekoma High School's volleyball team has qualified for the Spring Nationals and prepares to battle their long-standing rivals—Karasuno. Now, Kenma has to analyze the most confounding and resilient team and lead Nekoma to victory against them. Moreover, he will play against his friend Shouyou Hinata, Karasuno's short but incredibly proficient middle blocker. Karasuno has never been able to beat Nekoma in practice matches. Even so, despite his usual indifference, Kenma feels a tinge of excitement at the prospect of facing Karasuno in a high-stakes official game with no do-overs. To advance to the semifinals and ultimately restore their team's former glory, Karasuno must find a way to overcome Kenma's brilliant strategy and defeat Nekoma in their own territory. This movie--and hence this overall series--is what makes anime so fantastic! I couldn't believe my eyes at the animation of this godlike show. omg I was at the edge of my seat throughout the show due to the immense display of clean and smooth movement that appeared on my macbook screen. Golly gosh I cant believe I was able to sit down and watch a series such as this in the big 25. This show gives you everything: excitement, enjoyment, and most of all: HAPPINESS! If you dont watch this movie, then I am afraid to say that you are missing out on such anextreme form of great content. There is everything you need in this show! GOsh dont even get me starteed on this fantastic character development, ITS absolutely supreme! GOsh I wish I was hinata shoyo and as smart and calculating at Kenma! Gosh this battle between kurasno and nekoma high schools is definitely one for the books

It should've been a series, not a movie. I really love the story and this part is as good as the previous ones. I love character development, their motives and how they work in relationships. But there are so many moments that feel crammed and cramped. It really calls for standard pacing of a series where an episode is devoted solely to the back story of characters and their development. These are not obligatory but let you savor the moment and the atmosphere of the anime. Here they are hinted but not covered fully. The game is also half cut, there should be more actual volleyballscenes to give you the appropriate thrill. Once again, the story is good, but it's told here not in the best way and it's really sad.

I saw someone saying that this is the first time they didn't elevate the source material and i couldn't agree more The only issue with the movie I felt was it was much less intense than the show, mainly because it was short of time, the main reason Haikyuu seasons felt so intense was they stretched a game for around 6-8 episodes and a rare case when it's always good and intensity maintains, now they had around 3-4 episode runtime to do the same, and because of this you see a lot of instances where the set suddenly ended or something went way too fast inone take without any drama and that is very un-Haikyuu like and may even disappoint you if you haven't seen enough sports Anime. The match felt like I'm watching 2.43: Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team, but with Haikyuu characters Despite that the movie succesfully connects with you emotionally when it's needed and that's what makes it good, definitely worth a watch, just a bit overrated tho

I have to admit that this movie, although I wanted it to be a new season of the series, didn't ruin my expectations of Haikyuu! This movie was great, they did a great job of capturing this long-awaited battle. It was as if this wasn't a sports anime, it was action, war, and killing! The animation and graphics of some parts of the match, especially the final set, made me think that they couldn't have made a movie better than this! I had actually read the manga before, but they did it so well! Even the part where we saw the match from Kenma's perspective, mymouth was really open until the end, I was breathing along with Kenma, my heart was beating at a thousand. This anime is even more underrated than it is! People should watch more Haikyuu! Haikyuu is definitely in my top 5 favorite anime list! Both the manga and the anime are completely satisfying! At some points, I almost cried from the excitement and feeling it conveyed to me, and I was really upset! But the trash can battle was executed wonderfully! The work of the director, the studio, the animation team, and above all the mangaka was speechless! Okay, I was so excited that I talked a lot. Let's move on to the criteria: First of all, the story was as expected, very wonderful! So much so that in the first part, with Hinata's complete blocking, I also felt sad and under pressure, but fortunately, Hinata really took off in this series! And in general, this sense of excitement that was in Kenma, in addition to his team and Hinata, made me happy, and all of this has the effect of the always strong story of Haikyuu. The animation was wonderful! Some sequences I could no longer breathe from how great it was! Could the character be any better? Our team and our always rival team were all in there! Tsukishima also had a very cool and high character development and I loved his conversation and competition with Kuro, and the reactions he showed warmed my heart.... I won't explain further to avoid spoilers. And the music was also very well managed! Where the song should have been playing, it was great, and where we needed more excitement, concentration, and anxiety, the music was cut off by management and replaced with sound effects. In addition, the voice actors, as always, showed their art! Especially the part where Hinata screams with joy and Kenma gasps really caught my attention! This is it! This is the always wonderful Haikyuu! I can't wait for the next movie and I'm really looking forward to it. Although I think we're actually expected to have two more movies.

I was really excited to watch this movie and had high expectations, but unfortunately, it let me down. Despite not having read the manga, the pacing felt rushed. The ending was anticlimactic, leaving me wondering, 'Is it over already?' The predictable storyline diminished the stakes, and unlike previous arcs, there weren't any memorable scenes. The dialogue and writing were mediocre, nothing special. Most character interactions felt like filler, failing to contribute to the plot. On the positive side, I loved the music and animation. The soundtrack is consistently impressive, and Haikyuu's animation quality is always reliable. As a Haikyuu fan, I'm disappointed with this movie, but I remainoptimistic about future projects. Overall, I'd give it 5/10

It's almost everything I wanted from the match up between Karasano and Nekoma. But it's a movie instead of a season of anime, and you can FEEL the squish of the pacing in it and I just don't see a lot of elevated production to compensate for it. This is as good as Haikyuu "To the Top" in terms of animation and sound design. If it's better in any of those regards it's so minor that it's not worth giving additional praise for. However the fact that this movie's runtime would barely cover 4 episodes of the anime if it were still in seasonal animeform, means that it just feels like a slightly underwhelming conclusion for all of the build up we've had between these schools and these characters over the course of the series. The match vs Shiratorizawa felt more intense and emotional than this one did, and maybe it felt that way in the manga also (I'm anime only) but something tells me that this has to do with the fact that the match was so much shorter. This is definitely a mixed bag of emotions for me. On the one hand I absolutely loved the movie, it lived up to the now very high standards I have for this series. It got me feeling all kinds of feels for these characters, and this match in particular felt different emotionally due to the close bond these two rival schools have developed with one another. It just feels like it's over too soon and that it's missing some things. I don't want to feel like that at the end of the day, because up till now absolutely nothing in this series has left me feeling any kind of disappointment like this. 8/10

I think this is a worthy first part for the ending of Haikyuu. I have heard many complains about the pacing but in my opinion, it's quite the opposite. I think the pacing was perfect. Exactly how fast paced sport animes should. It still had flashbacks, who were most of the time recaps we already knew but the pacing itself was fantastic. Story (7): The story is pretty cool. Exactly what to expect. And I really liked the introduction in the beginning. But I just think they overdid it with some of the flashbacks, especially them all concluding with the same message. Characters (7): I liked the characters as well as I did in the Haikyuu Show. They are a bit tacky maybe a bit on the nose and simple at times but all around well written. What really annoyed me here was that each and every character had to go through his entire motivations at the start of the movie. They tried to be subtle about it but it just felt like useless information to everyone who watched the show first. (And why wouldn't you?) Art/Sound (9): The art is just amazing. The animations are amazing, I love that they kept the style of the show but elevated it several notches. The camera angles are as interesting as ever. But the sound design cemented this experience, it was something I didn't think this movie would be that good at. Enjoyment (9): I was hyped and hooked from the very beginning. Just the repetition of things we already knew tampered my excitement a little. Overall: 8.0

I refused to read the manga, so I could experience it fully live. There was quite a difference from it being in episodes. It lost the suspense you would get from moving on from episode to episode. Despite the movie being only 85 minutes, a great amount of it was flashbacks. The moments leading up to the match are significant, but it made the match itself very predictable. When it got to the end of the movie, it was a bit disappointing. It may or may not have been intentional, but the ending felt unresolved and cut short. I wish there were more events andaftermath near the end to leave us more concluded and satisfied.

When you watch this in a cinema it really hits, good atmosphere, very solid animation, however... I think it felt way too short, all over the place and rushed, I felt like I was just dropped in the middle of the game where I barely know what happens, I really love Haikyuu and binged all 3 seasons, So many emotions throughout the series, but this time was different, it was supposed to be a very important match where you really feel the pressure, but it wasn't as I expected. Don't get me wrong, overall it was still pretty good, it's not a total letdown or whatever, butpersonally I expected more, I expected that the movie would transmit more emotions to the public, I expected that I would feel the excitement of both teams, like I did in season 3 vs Inarizaki. What the movie lacked the most was IMPACT, because it felt way too much like a regular match and not like a decisive battle, I still felt goosebumps to some moments and it was awesome, but in the end it still didn't rose to my expectations. I'm pretty sure most of us remember the iconic block of Tsukki vs Ushijima, that scene had TONS of impact, it was heavy, it was so hype that makes you jump from your seat, well this movie lacks such moments and it's a shame. Overall I give it a 7/10 As I said, I still enjoyed it, but not to the extent I hoped, or maybe I'm just lying to myself because I paid money to watch it, I don't know. It could've been way better if we had a 2h movie at least.

It's a different direction. I was surprised when I saw the movie was only 85 minutes, which is roughly 4 episodes time-length. But after watching, I can see the decision. This doesn't have the same vibe as the Seijou or Shiratorizawa matches, where it was "do-or-die", "we must win, if we lose it's all over". It was more like this is the biggest match of the year between the two schools, but not the final one; there will be future matches like this in the following years. So while there is action and high-paced movement, the vibe is relatively more chill; not as passionateand butt-clenching atmosphere. There's more emotional (though not heavy) focus than I expected. But what I really enjoyed was the varied camera perspectives. That's what was movie quality for me; the amount of value they spent in designing the different angles and shots. The sound design was also good for theatres; I could feel the weight of the collision sound effects.

Despite translating a sizable portion of manga material to movie format, they were able to fit a considerable amount of depth in the short runtime provided. Haikyu!! Movie: The Dumpster Battle capitalizes on its strengths, notably in character writing and emotional impact, even with its limitations. Not only that, but both the source material and the animation took risks not commonly seen in sports stories and visual storytelling respectively, and very much succeeded in those endeavors. Yes, minor moments are cut short or missed. However, this adaptation stands on its merit, deserving its place as an alternative and acceptable way to thoroughly enjoy the experience.

7/10. This movie leaves you wanting more. As a sequel to the show, there are a little bit of everything that made this show great. The action was phenomenal and the animation carried the fluidity of the match so it was easy to follow. The music gave chills to the spine as Hinata jumps to spike the ball. Everything was done masterfully as you'd expect from a movie. The problem was the movie run time. When I saw the runtime being 85 minutes, I knew this was going to be a problem. With episodes being (for the sake of simplicity) roughly 20 mins long, this movie triesto conclude a match with 4.5 episodes which is simply not enough. Many plays get overlooked or simply touched upon before moving on. There was very little time to process the significance of a play outside of the very big ones. Many players were given one liners otherwise you would never know they were playing. Overall, the stakes of the match felt lost to the time provided. Instead, we got a movie that focused more on character development (mostly on the rival's side) and the match was simply the backdrop. The directors wanted to make a movie, fine. They wanted us to pay, fine. But cutting out material to fit into a 90 minute movie was not the way to go.

Let me preface this by saying that I absolutely love Haikyuu. In a vacuum, would I recommend this to sports anime fans? Of course. But, this is yet another reminder of a lame and inevitable trend we're seeing of studios cashing in quickly on a film, rather than adapting the source material into a fully fledged season. The end result is that many of the scenes feel a little more rushed than necessary, the overall urgency and drama is reduced, and moments that are meant to be emotional and impactful just breeze by. Worse still, some awesome plays from the manga are even cut completely (Nishinoya backheel save?) YukiHayashi and Asami Tachibana once again kill it with the OST, and it's the characters we all know and love - but it could have been so much more. I hope part 2 has a different result, but I doubt it. Plot: 8 Characters: 9 Animation: 7.5 Soundtrack: 9 Enjoyment: 6

First thing I Liked it more because of 4Dx great movie but if the movie was longer then 2 hours then it would have been great. Kenma's POV scene was so exciting and it looked so realisticI would it loved it more if I hadn't read its manga beforehand. I still would have preferred a anime series then a movie but it is it what it is. The rivarly between these two teams even fules the movie. The overalll match was exciting and sometime while watching it I even cheered of nekoma. That shows how good this match was and the overall writing.

This anime have (no spoilers) - the complete "Battle" throughout the movie - A plot focused on the rival - Kenma - "Very good" animation - Copious amount of weird laughs - Short Flashbacks - faster paced plays - Hinata- a feeling of more powerful ball impacts (this could be because of the cinema) - Couple of smart plays - POV, you are a volleyball player - Changes in animation style in different parts of the movie - Post credits Despite of the "2 movies for don't know how many manga volumes" the first movie is an excellent film, and if you already watched the previous seasons why stop now?, you can watch it on theaters or just wait like 3 months and it will magically appear on your computer.

If you’re a manga reader - this is not the manga. And the moment they announced 2 final movies instead of another season, it was never going to be the manga. So if you’re expecting that level of detail, you will be disappointed because it’s simply not possible. But if you go in knowing and accepting that, then this part one of the final movies achieves everything the previous seasons did. It makes you excited, pumped, emotional, and most of all, love volleyball. Would it have been better with more detail? Of course. But given the limited time frame they had to work with, themovie does a good job covering the Battle of the Garbage Dump. And the animation is much improved from season 4 as well.

It's been almost 3 and a half year since it's last Season and we all have been waiting for this to continue, This Movie is the best animation of Haikyuu!! , transaction between frames is soo fluid, and that POV scene is literally THE BEST SCENE IN whole movie, 90 mins of pure joy, This movie is Intense, fast paced, hilarious, exciting, wholesome. As a manga reader, I would say they did a decent job at the animation. There are definitely a lot of stuff cut out from the manga with most the attention being given to Hianta and Kenma, which to be fair makessense with the movie running time of only 80 mins. But it's not enough. I want more, As for the soundtrack, it's excellent, and even though Spyair changed the singer, But they are still very, very good at it. This series is so good at building the hype moments. I love Haikyuu!! This series is my favorite sport anime.
itzonlaught
First time I can say, that they didnt elevate the source material. Lots of skipped content. The emotional dynamics was done well. Overall instead of feeling like I was watching a volleyball anime. I felt like I was watching an anime sprinkled with volleyball. No tension, no urgency in the match. Still giving this a 7/10 bcuz I love haikyuu but very sad I waited so long for this. Understand a lot of people like the anime for purely the character dynamcis, I agree i also loved it for that. But the volleyball aspect made me grow to love a sport I knew nothing about.2 full rallies in a 3 set match was not it.

We finally get to see "The battle of the garbage dump", something that Haikyu has been building up incredibly well over it's four previous seasons and boy is it worth the hype. 90 mins of pure joy, This movie is Intense, fast paced, hilarious, exciting, wholesome. There is a lot of pay off for everything that has been set up between Karasuno and Nekoma in the past. Haikyu is known for giving it's characters some incredible moments and developing them and there are a lot of such moments in this film, especially with Kenma, who is definitely the star of this movie. His development kindof gives the same satisfaction that we get with Tsukishima's development and there is brilliant POV scene with Kenma that was breathtakingly animated. I watched this in a packed IMAX screening and everyone lost their minds seeing that. Definitely one of my most memorable movie going experiences, I already can't wait for the next movie!

As a manga reader, after getting tired of no continuation from the previous season and having re-read the manga about 8 times in total, I would say they did a decent job at the animation. There are definitely a lot of stuff cut out from the manga with most the attention being given to Hianta and Kenma, which to be fair makes sense with the movie running time of only 80 mins. The highlight for me was the voice acting with Kaiji Yuuki-sensei and Murase Ayumu-sensei doing absolutely so perfect at voicing the hyped emotions behind each line. The OSTs and cinematography was chef'skiss and the pacing was decent for all the cutting up they did. I was at the edge of my seat this whole time and shaking even though I already knew what would happen. In conclusion, I would say it is recommended, but if you are a fan of some specific characters from the manga, then I would also understand why you would have mixed feelings.
