Synopsis
After Yang Wen-li successfully captures the Iserlohn Fortress, the Free Planets Alliance grows bolder in its militaristic ambitions. With recent incursions into Galactic Empire territory and the possession of a perfect beachhead, the Alliance is now able to deal significant damage to the Empire. However, Reinhard von Lohengramm has no intention of allowing the Free Planets Alliance to gain a foothold. He is adamant about carrying on his best friend Siegfried Kircheis' dearest wish: to be the one to unite the universe. As wide-scale military clashes continue, the opportunist Adrian Rubinsky, Fezzan's ambitious leader, attempts to take advantage of the war to further his personal goals. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Honestly, I only started watching the remade Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu just to see what the hype about the original was all about and because after watching so many anime, movies and shows I was beginning to run out of things to watch. I never expected to watch it all in it's entirety and am really glad I gave it a chance. This is not my typical genre, yet there is something so compelling about the storytelling that it keeps you coming back for more. A grand drama that intrigues even those not fond of the genre. The modern art style is very well done andthose who do not enjoy the 'classic' vibe of the original will definitely like this. The likeable and well-rounded characters will you give a hard time in deciding deciding which side to root for. A solid recommend for those wanting to watch something new.

As a fan of the OVA adaptation and the books, I've been watching Die Neue These as soon as is available online. Even though the first episodes of the series were shocking to say the least to longtime fans due to some questionable pacing issues and modernized characters designs, DNT has improved tremendously with the last two seasons (I will refer to this particular movie as DNT Intrigue for clarity) In Intrigue both the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance deal with the aftermath of crucial events ocurred during the last season, yet the story focus also shifts onto Fezzan and its leader Adrian Rubinsky,a fascinating figure that will be of extreme importance on later events in the series. Intrigue might not have as many gruesome battles as other parts of DNT but the constant decisions and trials faced by characters of all sides during Intrigue will keep you on the edge of your seat. And for battle enjoyers, do not worry, one of the most entertaining battles of both wits and warfare is present in Intrigue as a fun final arc to the season. In the technical aspect, DNT looks better than ever with beautiful background visuals and some updated designs and technology compared to the OVA, giving a new (modern!) futuristic touch to LoGH, especially evident during the scenes taking place in Fezzan. The character designs keep being polished and modern yet extremely forgettable and bland compared to the OVA, worst offender being fan favorite character Muller being introduced this season with a terribly downgraded design. The music, though can not compete with the magnificent symphonies present in the OVA is serviceable and an improvement from previous seasons. The flaws of Intrigue are mostly related to its pacing, the split between Empire focused segments and FPA focused segments feeling somewhat blunt compared to the OVA. The direction of some scenes can also be jarring to OVA viewers due to DNT trying to be faithful to the novels. Overall DNT Intrigue is a solid new adaptation of the original LoGH novels, might feel slightly lacking to OVA viewers but still is a fresh approach to the wonderful legend (huh!) of LoGH and accessible to new viewers.

There isn't much to say about this anime, except that the remake is excellent, and allows newcomers and veterans of the franchise alike to enjoy this philosophical space opera. This season is much more political than the previous one, and not battle heavy. So it could be considered more boring, however this just isn't the kind of anime that you watch for the action alone. This is the kind of anime you watch sipping a glass of wine, pondering about political philosophy, which is what its all about. The anime is basically a commentary on political systems and is absolutely excellent. I truly hope that theydo the entire series in the remake style. I want to see this through to the end. There's just too many interesting themes to think about. Even watching modern events such as the current war in Ukraine, you are given new perspectives when you watch this anime. And above all the dilemma: What is better? A corrupt inefficient Democracy, or a Tyranny with happy people? 9/10, very worth a watch if you like strategy, politics, and anime that makes you think about existential questions. It can't be said enough but the characters (mainly Yang Wen Li and Duke Lohengramm) are absolutely amazing. And the parallels with modern Western countries (the free planet alliance) are very strong.

Personally, this anime is amazing when they are made into remake. I did not even care when the remake anime released a few years ago, but somehow my instinct told me that this anime is worth to watch. The moment I watched it, I fell in love with it instantly. Some technical terms might be foreign to my ears, but the story plot, while many people say that it's slow, nevertheless it is not hard to comprehend. Politics, war tactical, drama elements are all comprised in appropriate fashion. Each character has their own distinctive motive, growth and challenges and seeing that through episodes, definitely thisanime should receive better recognition from mecha anime fans.

What can I say except how amazing the remake has been. This season may have not been as action-heavy and climactic as the previous season, but this season has primarily been building up to what's probably the best part of the OVA: Operation Ragnarok. Because this season is primarily dialogue, we have very few action scenes. The couple that we do get is the conclusion to Fortress vs Fortress fight in episode one, and the opening battle of Operation Ragnarok between Iserlohn Fortress and Reuenthal's fleet. Both fight scenes are amazing, which shows to go how far CG has come when it comes to spacebattles (same quality as Yamato 2199's fights). Regardless of the minimal space fights, the art and animation still shine brightly. We get some (questionable) character designs, but the artwork is still fantastic nonetheless. The series benefits from the movie-level quality of animation, and I pray that I.G. continues adapting the series, as next season will deliver on the best the series has to offer. Everything will pay off in the following 12 episodes next season. Having read the novels and seen the OVA (like most of us here, presumably), the story and characters are obviously a 10/10. I have nothing else to say about that. Overall enjoyment of this season: 9/10.
