Synopsis

Several months have passed since the Jewel Seed incident, and Nanoha Takamachi is getting ready to welcome Fate Testarossa back from her trial with the Administrative Bureau. Having received conditional clemency for her role in preventing the crisis, Fate has been allowed to attend school with Nanoha. However, before the two girls can settle into their daily lives together, a group of dark mages suddenly descend upon them. Overpowered by their unknown assailants, Nanoha and Fate have their mana absorbed by an ominous grimoire, and both Raising Heart and Bardiche are damaged in the process. The ones behind this ambush are known as the Wolkenritter, and its four members—Vita, Signum, Shamal, and the familiar Zafila—were summoned by the Book of Darkness to carry out its malignant bidding. The book's current owner is the young girl Hayate Yagami, oblivious to its true nature while the Wolkenritter, charging its power with the forcibly stolen mana, is duty-bound to seek the tome's completion. Left drained and weaponless, Nanoha and Fate must race against time to recover their strength and confront the Wolkenritter, with the aim of preventing the quartet from finishing the Book of Darkness and unleashing its devastating magic upon the world. At this point I've reviewed quite a few instalments in the Nanoha franchise. Including the first film and the A's series. Thus far, it's been a very strong franchise and I hope we're ending this year's film festival week on a high note with this. Story: We open with Hayate taking the bus while holding a chained up book in her lap. She' get's wheeling herself home in her chair when a sleeping truck driver nearly rams into her only for her to be saved by a mysterious light. Meanwhile, Nanoha is beyond excited for Fate's upcoming return. They're enjoying their reunion when we learnthat mages and magical creatures alike have been attacked and had their linker cores drained. These events are quickly linked with the Book of Darkness incident that cost Captain Lindy her husband years ago. The narrative of this film is really well put together. They set up the story with Hayate and her knights in a way that makes them and their cause come across as misguided but highly sympathetic. The film does a fantastic job of showcasing the knights' desperation and building up on that as they approach the climax. The sequence where Fate comes face to face with her past trauma is brilliant. The NanoFate scenes where they're very blatantly in the early stages of falling in love are adorable. The climax itself is incredible. It has high stakes, a grand scope and some very powerful moments. Then we have the ending which has some excellently handled bittersweet elements. Characters: This franchise has always had really strong casts and this film is no different. Nanoha, Fate, Hayate, The knights, Lindy, the members of the time-space bureau, Arf, Suzuka, Alisa they're all great characters. A big part of the casts' strength comes from the inter-personal relationships and how the characters interact with one another. And it's not just the les-yay fuelled interactions that are superb. Seeing Suzuka befriend Hayate, Nanoha try to understand Vita, Liny assume a motherly role for Fate & watching Fate and Signum come to mutual respect are all very compelling relationship dynamics. Art: The film looks incredible. The characters have the best versions of their designs. The action sequences are really excellent. The backgrounds are vibrant. The one issue I have is with the transformation sequences. Which have been a continuing issue with this franchise. They're very weirdly fan-servicey. Keep in mind, these characters are around nine or ten years old. And we have shots showing off their bare butts and chests. Who exactly are these shots for? Sound: The acting is fantastic. This franchise has always had an amazing vocal cast. Tamura Yukari, Mizuki Nana, Ueda Kana, Sanada Asami, Kuwatani Natsuko, Shimizu Kaori, Yuzuki Ryouka and the rest all reprise their roles flawlessly. The music is another aspect that the franchise always does really well and gets handled perfectly in this film. Ho-yay: There's a lot. We get the obvious romantic tension betwixt Nanoha and Fate. There's also a lot of it with Hayate and Vita. In addition to that, Arf gets really blushy around Captain Lindy. Methinks she wants the two of them to be Fate's mums together. Areas of Improvement: 1. The transformation sequences desperately need reworked. 2. I'm not joking. No transformation sequence involving a little girl should involve nudity. 3. For the one action sequence that Lindy was directly involved in it would have been cool to see more of her directly using her magic and getting involved since it's not really something we've seen from the franchise. Final Thoughts: Honestly, most of the elements in this film are so well-handled and genuinely fantastic that I'm tempted to hand out a perfect score. The one thing that's stopping me from doing that is the weird and creepy fan-service involved in the transformation sequences. Due to that, I'm going to give it a 9/10. It's absolutely worth watching. I would just suggest skipping through the transformation sequences.

Lyrical Nanoha Movie The 2nd A's is the second movie and appropriately reboots the second season of the anime, Lyrical Nanoha A's in much the same way as its prequel did. While I had high hopes which were certainly held up to for the first movie, the second movie, while still very enjoyable, can be a bit of a mixed bag. Unfortunately, the second movie suffers from pacing just a bit more than the first; due to the sheer amount of content that was necessary to be crammed into the movie, it's not able to achieve the same level of success. Certain elements that were presentin the series and were able to be expanded on here. As examples, General Grahm and Chrono's teachers are nowhere to be seen, while events are given much less focus. There really is no easy way around this; there was more than enough content to fill a two and a half hour movie, although even this wasn't enough, as some elements appear to be just too time-consuming and had to be left out. However, this does not make the movie bad by any means, as it is still a worthwhile watch with as many good moments as the first movie. It simply falls just a little bit short of being perfect. 8/10.

For anyone new to the franchise this is the definitive way to watch the A's arc. Much as with the previous film, this movie has clear, crisp new visuals, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the story a big boost. All the fat has been trimmed to fit it into a runtime less than 3 hours, but it never feels rushed and still manages to tell the whole story in a coherent fashion. Sticklers for cannon or people who liked those twin cat characters for some reason may complain that they omitted quite a few things, but looking at it inthe grand scheme of things those were all unnecessary to the greater story being told. I think they were able to really cut to the emotional core of the story. It also felt like there were a lot of minor retcons to bring things more in line with current and future installments. All the praise I gave the first movie still applies here, a solid 9/10.

First things first. My "reviews" system is explained on a blog entry. Which can be found through my profile. ------ Short review for BOTH first and second movie. ---- ✦Story Remakes of 1st and 2nd season. Read synopsis of main series or reviews or whatever. Not gonna comment the same story all over again. I'm going mention only obvious things for most part. Basically its condensed version of series. So of course it will suffer from faster development and cut content. But as standalone I did enjoy it same as series. Did yes, watch with skips, but it's because I binge watched Nanoha and I cannot be bothered to re-watch somethingin a row. ✦Art&Sound Years have passed and so has animation&art. It's years after main series so obviously Animation and Art is much better. It was quite enjoyable, still simple, colorful and cool magic. Oh and it's rated R simply because of transformation sequences showed nipples. Found it moronic, It's still same "child can watch" tier Anime. Music&OST I found this time around being a bit boring. Didn't impress me much. ✦Character Do i really need to comment anything? Cast is same, all is same, charas are same. Only a bit less growing into them maybe, as it's 13 ep series condensed into 2hour movies. To add. Magical Devices did talk a lot more here than in the series. And their representing languages were better here. ✦Enjoyment&Overall Enjoyed them to the same amount, but maybe been different if would have watched movies before series. Or watch movies years after series. But nevertheless i enjoyed them as much as series and got to see prettier visuals.

Alright, so to be clear, this movie is a remake of the original series. I love the Mahou shoujo lyrical nanoha series and out of all 3 series, I enjoyed A's the most. So I was thrilled to hear that they'd make a remake. A lot of this review will be me ranting so please bear with me. Story 9/10 The story was amazng as usual and I think that it was very fitting. Cramming 13 episodes which are 23 minutes each into a 2hour 40 movie will obviously get rid of some scenes. But the major down point in that was that they took out the mainvillain that appeared in the original. In a sense, that made the show go from being a story where there is a mastermind manipulating 2 sides to a pointless battle caused by a misunderstanding and 'lack of communication'. Art 10/10 The art and animation is the part that stands out the most. It was made in shiny new animation which flowed smoothly and made everything better. They even redesigned the weapons to make them look even better. Sound 10/10 I don't really pay attention to sound much: Its more like if it's good it doesn't stand out but if it's bad I will pay attention. But nevertheless, i found myself looking for some soundtracks and even taking note of the ost that i liked the most. Character 8/10 The reason that the character is lower than most of the other points is because as said before, the lack of an actual villain or mastermind. The one that had an ulterior motive and you were trying to find the identity of. Overall 10/10 Overall, as a movie, it was awesome and as a remake it was very good. Now that I think back, it might have been necessary to remove the villain to make its length acceptable and at the same time not be rushed. But I think that if you watched the original series, you will notice the difference.

"Mahou shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 2nd A's" surpasses it's predecessor in literally ever aspect. For the longest time I've always figured sequels were inferior products just by definition alone, but Nanoha 2 proved just how wrong I was. Story: 8 This adaption of the second season's events was handled far better than its prequel's attempt at the first season. Gone is the jagged pacing of the previous film, which I'm thankful for. Along with that the tale is just far more interesting this time around. Our heroes were up against a foe that actually felt more like a threat. This is largely because of thefirst fight in the film which highlights this fact. True to form like the prequel, Nanoha 2's antagonists are even more interesting, and have their own special dynamic that makes the film. We also get a glimpse at the world of these magi, which added a much needed scale to how the world works.With the stakes higher, action better, and script tighter, Nanoha's second film raises the bar higher. Art: 9 So this is what having a budget looks like. Although I was a littler underwhelmed with the production values of the first film this second outing was truly outstanding. The action scenes were bright, vibrant, and eye popping. Transformation sequences were also stunning, and same can be said about the character designs. Sound: 8 The OST this time around was truly a force. Unlike the first film the music wasn't hidden in the background, and made itself present. It was incredibly affective at amplifying the tone of the show, and added to the overall impact-fullness of scenes. The voice acting was also solid, and everyone did a fantastic job except for one. Raising Heart's voice actress still is bad. Luckily she didn't have as many lines this time around so it didn't hurt the overall production as much as the first. Other than that small complaint no real problems in this department. Character: 8 I'm still impressed by the amount of attention the villains receive in this series. Because of this the aren't really villains, but people with their own goals/hopes. The antagonists this time around are better than ever. The Knights were all interesting in their own right, and there Master as well. As returning characters go the whole gang is back in one way or another. Fate is still in my opinion one of the strongest points of this series. Nanoha I still find to be lacking, which is depressing considering she is the title character. She has no more depth beyond that she is kind which is a nice trait, but I would like a little more. Chrono and his mother also have layers added to them, which is a welcome addition. One complaint besides Nanoha is that Yunno sort of gets side lined because of the expanded cast. Although necessary considering how many more characters needed screen time/development I missed that furry bastard. Enjoyment: 9 This movie knocked my socks off in terms of jump in quality. I really enjoyed this sequel, and couldn't of been more pleased. Overall: 8.4 Tighter script, fantastic villains, and a wonderful continuation of the Lyrical Nanoha series. This sequel raises the bar even higher, and delivers the goods. If you are a fan of this genre then I would highly recommend this movie. I was skeptical going in because of my thoughts of the first film (I still liked it, but just wasn't quite there for me), but this film gave me what I wanted. Anyways those are my thoughts, and always thanks for reading.

Ah, the second Nanoha movie. Based off a season that the fandom seems to love even more than the first. So how did someone who didn't see the actual series until now think of this movie? Pretty good, actually. Not as good as the first movie, but still a good compilation movie nonetheless. (Again, I've never seen the actual A's season, so if I'm ignorant of things that happened there that got cut out in the movie, sorry.) Story (9/10): Once again, we have a condensed season put to movie form. The plot features a new character named Hayate and her relationship with the Book ofDarkness and all of its protectors. We also have Nanoha and Fate joining up again to work on this new case. There's a LOT of plot here that I can't really describe without total spoilers, so, in short, I can see how stuff got cut in transition. I mean, just what's there is already interesting. Even not having seen the original series, I got the plot, felt a connection to all the characters, and it really was a well written story. (This is also apparently where the whole story goes a bit AU on us, since this is done (supposedly) as a movie made by TSAB, but that's neither here nor there.) Art (8/10): Much like the first movie, the art is really well done here. As I'm usually prone to do, I must gush over how well animated the transformation and battle scenes are. There were a couple of wobbly proportions here and there, but nothing distracting, so overall it was a pretty movie. Sound (7/10): Eh, the background music was good, but nothing memorable here, really. I will say, instead, that all the seiyuu did a fantastic job voicing their characters. Character (9/10): With this movie, we get a few more characters added to the series cast sheet, and I'm more than impressed with them. Hayate is a nice kid and is such a hard worker even when she has a disability that would slow other people down. All the knights are interesting and have fun personalities, with their devotion to their master feeling very real even to me. Nanoha and Fate also get some great character development over the movie too. Nanoha shows how far she's willing to go to fight for her friends and how well in-tune she is with her magic and abilities. Fate gets a ton of development, heading towards a somewhat more normal life, as well as finally being able to move on (in a really heartwarming and sad scene, I might add). Raising Heart and Bardiche also (...somehow) get some development, and it's really nice to see how much they love their masters. I am a little sad that Yuuno (and really the majority of TSAB, it seems) got so little screen time, since while it did have a smaller and more in-depth pool of characters to work with, I feel like we missed out on something. Enjoyment (8/10): This is definitely a good movie, especially for those battles. The story had me invested, I liked all the characters, and it was generally really fun. But holy crap, this is a 2 AND A HALF HOUR MOVIE. While I get that they did their best so that the whole story fit in, it drags after the hour and a half mark until the final battles. Not to say that it wasn't good, it's just that there's a point were I was checking the time every 15 minutes or so. Overall, MSLN movie 2 is a good follow up to the first movie, though be prepared for the long haul if you intend to watch. It was fun and interesting and it made me much more interested in seeing the original A's to compare. And now I'm excited to see how they'll work with Strikers. :)

When I first watched Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's (the TV series), I loved it. It had a compelling story, great characters, and a beautiful OST. It eventually became the standard that I held perfection of an anime by and was the pinnacle of the Lyrical Nanoha franchise. Needless to say, I was absolutely excited after I found out that A's was going to get a movie version like the first season. After all, the first movie was great. It trimmed the fat of the first season to make a stellar narrative. Of course that meant that with A's, something was going to be cutout. This was probably what I was most worried about that since I found it hard to cut scenes out of A's without losing something. Now, without further ado: Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 2nd A's. Story: 10 Since the movie itself is an alternate re-telling of A's, the story is overall very similar minus one set of characters whose actions did guide certain events along. For example, Nanoha's Starlight Breaker + to break the barrier and Reinforce's Starlight Breaker were all cut out from the movie. Despite the missing portions from the original story, the it still acts as a smoothly written and captivating narrative. Art and Animation: 9 Movie budget. Need I say more? Sound: 9 Unlike the TV seasons and the previous movie, the soundtrack was composed by Misa Chujo as instead of Sano Hiroaki. My first reaction when this was announced was definitely negative. Sano Hiroaki had always created such a beautiful, pumping OSTs that always fit the moods of the scenes they played in perfectly. As such, I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the movie and heard the OST. While it was not as good as Sano Hiroaki's, it was still well composed and fit the movie really well. There were two insert songs. "Snow Rain ~ver. Holy Night~" by Ueda Kana was played at the same scene that the original Snow Rain was played in the series. The difference between the two was, of course, the instrumental but the new version still meshed really well with the scene and as such created the same impact it did in the original series. The second was "Sacred Force" by Nana Mizuki which played at the same time that "Brave Phoenix" played in the original. While Sacred Force went well with the scene, it just didn't have the same chilling feel that Brave Phoenix had in the original. The last aspect of Sound is of course the voices. Starring the same stellar cast as the original series, the movie did not disappoint overall in this aspect. My only issue is with the defense program's cry. Originally, it was given an eerie and highly feminine cry. This was meant to drive home the connection it had with Reinforce (this and the feminine shape you see on the defense program's body being Reinforce's former hollow shell). However, the movie gave it a more monstrous male roar. In a sense this somewhat distanced it from Reinforce while still keeping the feminine shape stemming out of the body of the program. Character: 10 What the story lacked was definitely made up for with character development of the knights especially Reinforce. In the original, Reinforce's appearance was sudden and did not make too much sense until the end. However, the movie does a good job of building her up from the very beginning of the narrative. However, the movie does a good job of building her up from the very beginning of the narrative. At the same time, the development of the knights is also extremely well done. Enjoyment: 10 This category is kinda subjective isn't it? Final Verdict: This movie is definitely something I'd definitely recommend that you watch the movie. However, I would also recommend that you watch the TV series first if you didn't as it will fill in a lot of gaps. If possible, buy the DVDs or Blu-rays because they are worth every penny spent.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha MOVIE 2nd A's Genre: Action, Magical Girl, Drama, Sci-Fi. Length: 1 movie, 2 hours 40 minutes. A side note guys - I ADORE the "Mahou Shojou Lyrical Nanoha" series. It's my favourite series. Therefore I may ramble on a bit thoughout this review. This movie is a retelling of the 2nd series, "A's" ... Most retell movies only have improved animation going for them, truncicating the plot to cram it into a shorter time limit. Nanoha had previously proved an exception to this, as the first movie not only perfectly retold the season, but ADDED details and backstory. It's a bit interesting to note nowthat 2nd movie DOES cut out a rather significant plot point, but I always hated that particular plot point, and never thought it made much sense. It's replaced by some more character development for Adrmial Lindsy and Chrono's father, which is a GOOD thing. Animation is amazing. It's easily a 10/10. The movie budget does not disapoint, as even the most complext of action sequences do not present a dull in animation. Action is incredible, it looks amazing and feels amazing. Much of the high impact action is intertwined with some fairly emotional moments (Such as Nanoha fighting down Reinforce while Fate struggles with her identity) Characters are as likable and fun as ever, with Nanoha and Fate taking center stage in all their glory. Interestingly, the yuri overtones between the two appear more obvious than the series (theres seriously a moment where they hold onto each others hips and stare into each others eyes....) but that's pretty cute. Nano-Fate is a thing. In the actual series, it was a bit more subtle. A non intuitive viewer might've had more trouble picking up their relationship. It's more obvious in this movie. Take it or leave it whether thats good or not. I'm personaly indifferent. My only disapointment was the end scene: In the series, it shows Nanoha and the rest grown up, in their "adult" forms. This was such an incredible highlight for me, marking the end of an era and the start of something amazing (Nanoha StrikerS). In the movie, only Fate appears SLIGHTLY older (and even then, by about a YEAR at maximum) and the rest are looking the same age. I can only hope that the StrikerS movie appears! SORRY! I tried to keep this as short as I could, but this IS a movie from my favorite anime series. Anyway, 100% recomended!

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 2nd A's is a movie rendition of the corresponding tv series, and a direct sequel to the 1st movie which covered the first season of the franchise. While the first incarnation started out as a fairly ordinary magical girl series, it eventually evolved into what could be described as the Magical Girl Lightshow of Befriending, involving flashy combat and interesting swaths of character development that made it unique in this genre. Visually speaking, the movie is extremely shiny and polished, despite a few moments of off model that were barely noticed. While the first movie looked great, it stillresorted to stills in combat scenes, but 2nd A's makes these weaknesses far less pronounced, leading to a ton of fluid movement. Regardless of the actual content of the movie, it sure does look appealing, especially for those into moe aesthetics. Unfortunately, it falters in the story department. This was to be expected, as the series was 13 episodes long with minimal filler. Trimming at anything significant would weaken the narrative, and unfortunately there are a few plot threads that simply will not make sense to those who haven't seen the tv series. That is most likely the greatest weakness of the movie, and I would have to recommend you watch the tv series first. What it does focus on, it does fairly well, and offers a lot of humanization to the antagonists of the story which makes the storytelling a more balanced affair. It's not too easy to take sides in this conflict for good reason, and that makes the movie more involving to watch. The movie actually doesn't spend that much time pew pew'ing all day as compared to the first movie, and focuses some on developing the characters' personalities and inner thoughts. Still, due to time constraints, certain key players from the tv series are left hanging but still left there leaving you wondering what they're supposed to do. I felt they could have fit them in more cleanly. In the end, I was very much satisfied to see Nanoha animated after an absence of three years. This movie is much more for fans though, and while I'd recommend that you could skip the first television series for the first movie, I really can't say the same for this. So, if you're into the series, you should know what to expect. If not, then try the television series, and give this a pass for now.

For the one action sequence that Lindy was directly involved in it would have been cool to see more of her directly using her magic and getting involved since it's not really something we've seen from the franchise. Final Thoughts: Honestly, most of the elements in this film are so well-handled and genuinely fantastic that I'm tempted to hand out a perfect score. The one thing that's stopping me from doing that is the weird and creepy fan-service involved in the transformation sequences. Due to that, I'm going to give it a 9/10. It's absolutely worth watching. I would just suggest skipping through the transformation sequences.

Lyrical Nanoha Movie The 2nd A's is the second movie and appropriately reboots the second season of the anime, Lyrical Nanoha A's in much the same way as its prequel did. While I had high hopes which were certainly held up to for the first movie, the second movie, while still very enjoyable, can be a bit of a mixed bag. Unfortunately, the second movie suffers from pacing just a bit more than the first; due to the sheer amount of content that was necessary to be crammed into the movie, it's not able to achieve the same level of success. Certain elements that were presentin the series and were able to be expanded on here. As examples, General Grahm and Chrono's teachers are nowhere to be seen, while events are given much less focus. There really is no easy way around this; there was more than enough content to fill a two and a half hour movie, although even this wasn't enough, as some elements appear to be just too time-consuming and had to be left out. However, this does not make the movie bad by any means, as it is still a worthwhile watch with as many good moments as the first movie. It simply falls just a little bit short of being perfect. 8/10.

For anyone new to the franchise this is the definitive way to watch the A's arc. Much as with the previous film, this movie has clear, crisp new visuals, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the story a big boost. All the fat has been trimmed to fit it into a runtime less than 3 hours, but it never feels rushed and still manages to tell the whole story in a coherent fashion. Sticklers for cannon or people who liked those twin cat characters for some reason may complain that they omitted quite a few things, but looking at it inthe grand scheme of things those were all unnecessary to the greater story being told. I think they were able to really cut to the emotional core of the story. It also felt like there were a lot of minor retcons to bring things more in line with current and future installments. All the praise I gave the first movie still applies here, a solid 9/10.

Which can be found through my profile. ------ Short review for BOTH first and second movie. ---- ✦Story Remakes of 1st and 2nd season. Read synopsis of main series or reviews or whatever. Not gonna comment the same story all over again. I'm going mention only obvious things for most part. Basically its condensed version of series. So of course it will suffer from faster development and cut content. But as standalone I did enjoy it same as series. Did yes, watch with skips, but it's because I binge watched Nanoha and I cannot be bothered to re-watch somethingin a row. ✦Art&Sound Years have passed and so has animation&art. It's years after main series so obviously Animation and Art is much better. It was quite enjoyable, still simple, colorful and cool magic. Oh and it's rated R simply because of transformation sequences showed nipples. Found it moronic, It's still same "child can watch" tier Anime. Music&OST I found this time around being a bit boring. Didn't impress me much. ✦Character Do i really need to comment anything? Cast is same, all is same, charas are same. Only a bit less growing into them maybe, as it's 13 ep series condensed into 2hour movies. To add. Magical Devices did talk a lot more here than in the series. And their representing languages were better here. ✦Enjoyment&Overall Enjoyed them to the same amount, but maybe been different if would have watched movies before series. Or watch movies years after series. But nevertheless i enjoyed them as much as series and got to see prettier visuals.

Alright, so to be clear, this movie is a remake of the original series. I love the Mahou shoujo lyrical nanoha series and out of all 3 series, I enjoyed A's the most. So I was thrilled to hear that they'd make a remake. A lot of this review will be me ranting so please bear with me. Story 9/10 The story was amazng as usual and I think that it was very fitting. Cramming 13 episodes which are 23 minutes each into a 2hour 40 movie will obviously get rid of some scenes. But the major down point in that was that they took out the mainvillain that appeared in the original. In a sense, that made the show go from being a story where there is a mastermind manipulating 2 sides to a pointless battle caused by a misunderstanding and 'lack of communication'. Art 10/10 The art and animation is the part that stands out the most. It was made in shiny new animation which flowed smoothly and made everything better. They even redesigned the weapons to make them look even better. Sound 10/10 I don't really pay attention to sound much: Its more like if it's good it doesn't stand out but if it's bad I will pay attention. But nevertheless, i found myself looking for some soundtracks and even taking note of the ost that i liked the most. Character 8/10 The reason that the character is lower than most of the other points is because as said before, the lack of an actual villain or mastermind. The one that had an ulterior motive and you were trying to find the identity of. Overall 10/10 Overall, as a movie, it was awesome and as a remake it was very good. Now that I think back, it might have been necessary to remove the villain to make its length acceptable and at the same time not be rushed. But I think that if you watched the original series, you will notice the difference.

"Mahou shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 2nd A's" surpasses it's predecessor in literally ever aspect. For the longest time I've always figured sequels were inferior products just by definition alone, but Nanoha 2 proved just how wrong I was. Story: 8 This adaption of the second season's events was handled far better than its prequel's attempt at the first season. Gone is the jagged pacing of the previous film, which I'm thankful for. Along with that the tale is just far more interesting this time around. Our heroes were up against a foe that actually felt more like a threat. This is largely because of thefirst fight in the film which highlights this fact. True to form like the prequel, Nanoha 2's antagonists are even more interesting, and have their own special dynamic that makes the film. We also get a glimpse at the world of these magi, which added a much needed scale to how the world works.With the stakes higher, action better, and script tighter, Nanoha's second film raises the bar higher. Art: 9 So this is what having a budget looks like. Although I was a littler underwhelmed with the production values of the first film this second outing was truly outstanding. The action scenes were bright, vibrant, and eye popping. Transformation sequences were also stunning, and same can be said about the character designs. Sound: 8 The OST this time around was truly a force. Unlike the first film the music wasn't hidden in the background, and made itself present. It was incredibly affective at amplifying the tone of the show, and added to the overall impact-fullness of scenes. The voice acting was also solid, and everyone did a fantastic job except for one. Raising Heart's voice actress still is bad. Luckily she didn't have as many lines this time around so it didn't hurt the overall production as much as the first. Other than that small complaint no real problems in this department. Character: 8 I'm still impressed by the amount of attention the villains receive in this series. Because of this the aren't really villains, but people with their own goals/hopes. The antagonists this time around are better than ever. The Knights were all interesting in their own right, and there Master as well. As returning characters go the whole gang is back in one way or another. Fate is still in my opinion one of the strongest points of this series. Nanoha I still find to be lacking, which is depressing considering she is the title character. She has no more depth beyond that she is kind which is a nice trait, but I would like a little more. Chrono and his mother also have layers added to them, which is a welcome addition. One complaint besides Nanoha is that Yunno sort of gets side lined because of the expanded cast. Although necessary considering how many more characters needed screen time/development I missed that furry bastard. Enjoyment: 9 This movie knocked my socks off in terms of jump in quality. I really enjoyed this sequel, and couldn't of been more pleased. Overall: 8.4 Tighter script, fantastic villains, and a wonderful continuation of the Lyrical Nanoha series. This sequel raises the bar even higher, and delivers the goods. If you are a fan of this genre then I would highly recommend this movie. I was skeptical going in because of my thoughts of the first film (I still liked it, but just wasn't quite there for me), but this film gave me what I wanted. Anyways those are my thoughts, and always thanks for reading.

Ah, the second Nanoha movie. Based off a season that the fandom seems to love even more than the first. So how did someone who didn't see the actual series until now think of this movie? Pretty good, actually. Not as good as the first movie, but still a good compilation movie nonetheless. (Again, I've never seen the actual A's season, so if I'm ignorant of things that happened there that got cut out in the movie, sorry.) Story (9/10): Once again, we have a condensed season put to movie form. The plot features a new character named Hayate and her relationship with the Book ofDarkness and all of its protectors. We also have Nanoha and Fate joining up again to work on this new case. There's a LOT of plot here that I can't really describe without total spoilers, so, in short, I can see how stuff got cut in transition. I mean, just what's there is already interesting. Even not having seen the original series, I got the plot, felt a connection to all the characters, and it really was a well written story. (This is also apparently where the whole story goes a bit AU on us, since this is done (supposedly) as a movie made by TSAB, but that's neither here nor there.) Art (8/10): Much like the first movie, the art is really well done here. As I'm usually prone to do, I must gush over how well animated the transformation and battle scenes are. There were a couple of wobbly proportions here and there, but nothing distracting, so overall it was a pretty movie. Sound (7/10): Eh, the background music was good, but nothing memorable here, really. I will say, instead, that all the seiyuu did a fantastic job voicing their characters. Character (9/10): With this movie, we get a few more characters added to the series cast sheet, and I'm more than impressed with them. Hayate is a nice kid and is such a hard worker even when she has a disability that would slow other people down. All the knights are interesting and have fun personalities, with their devotion to their master feeling very real even to me. Nanoha and Fate also get some great character development over the movie too. Nanoha shows how far she's willing to go to fight for her friends and how well in-tune she is with her magic and abilities. Fate gets a ton of development, heading towards a somewhat more normal life, as well as finally being able to move on (in a really heartwarming and sad scene, I might add). Raising Heart and Bardiche also (...somehow) get some development, and it's really nice to see how much they love their masters. I am a little sad that Yuuno (and really the majority of TSAB, it seems) got so little screen time, since while it did have a smaller and more in-depth pool of characters to work with, I feel like we missed out on something. Enjoyment (8/10): This is definitely a good movie, especially for those battles. The story had me invested, I liked all the characters, and it was generally really fun. But holy crap, this is a 2 AND A HALF HOUR MOVIE. While I get that they did their best so that the whole story fit in, it drags after the hour and a half mark until the final battles. Not to say that it wasn't good, it's just that there's a point were I was checking the time every 15 minutes or so. Overall, MSLN movie 2 is a good follow up to the first movie, though be prepared for the long haul if you intend to watch. It was fun and interesting and it made me much more interested in seeing the original A's to compare. And now I'm excited to see how they'll work with Strikers. :)

When I first watched Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's (the TV series), I loved it. It had a compelling story, great characters, and a beautiful OST. It eventually became the standard that I held perfection of an anime by and was the pinnacle of the Lyrical Nanoha franchise. Needless to say, I was absolutely excited after I found out that A's was going to get a movie version like the first season. After all, the first movie was great. It trimmed the fat of the first season to make a stellar narrative. Of course that meant that with A's, something was going to be cutout. This was probably what I was most worried about that since I found it hard to cut scenes out of A's without losing something. Now, without further ado: Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 2nd A's. Story: 10 Since the movie itself is an alternate re-telling of A's, the story is overall very similar minus one set of characters whose actions did guide certain events along. For example, Nanoha's Starlight Breaker + to break the barrier and Reinforce's Starlight Breaker were all cut out from the movie. Despite the missing portions from the original story, the it still acts as a smoothly written and captivating narrative. Art and Animation: 9 Movie budget. Need I say more? Sound: 9 Unlike the TV seasons and the previous movie, the soundtrack was composed by Misa Chujo as instead of Sano Hiroaki. My first reaction when this was announced was definitely negative. Sano Hiroaki had always created such a beautiful, pumping OSTs that always fit the moods of the scenes they played in perfectly. As such, I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the movie and heard the OST. While it was not as good as Sano Hiroaki's, it was still well composed and fit the movie really well. There were two insert songs. "Snow Rain ~ver. Holy Night~" by Ueda Kana was played at the same scene that the original Snow Rain was played in the series. The difference between the two was, of course, the instrumental but the new version still meshed really well with the scene and as such created the same impact it did in the original series. The second was "Sacred Force" by Nana Mizuki which played at the same time that "Brave Phoenix" played in the original. While Sacred Force went well with the scene, it just didn't have the same chilling feel that Brave Phoenix had in the original. The last aspect of Sound is of course the voices. Starring the same stellar cast as the original series, the movie did not disappoint overall in this aspect. My only issue is with the defense program's cry. Originally, it was given an eerie and highly feminine cry. This was meant to drive home the connection it had with Reinforce (this and the feminine shape you see on the defense program's body being Reinforce's former hollow shell). However, the movie gave it a more monstrous male roar. In a sense this somewhat distanced it from Reinforce while still keeping the feminine shape stemming out of the body of the program. Character: 10 What the story lacked was definitely made up for with character development of the knights especially Reinforce. In the original, Reinforce's appearance was sudden and did not make too much sense until the end. However, the movie does a good job of building her up from the very beginning of the narrative. Enjoyment: 10 This category is kinda subjective isn't it? Final Verdict: This movie is definitely something I'd definitely recommend that you watch the movie. However, I would also recommend that you watch the TV series first if you didn't as it will fill in a lot of gaps. If possible, buy the DVDs or Blu-rays because they are worth every penny spent.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha MOVIE 2nd A's Genre: Action, Magical Girl, Drama, Sci-Fi. Length: 1 movie, 2 hours 40 minutes. A side note guys - I ADORE the "Mahou Shojou Lyrical Nanoha" series. It's my favourite series. Therefore I may ramble on a bit thoughout this review. This movie is a retelling of the 2nd series, "A's" ... Most retell movies only have improved animation going for them, truncicating the plot to cram it into a shorter time limit. Nanoha had previously proved an exception to this, as the first movie not only perfectly retold the season, but ADDED details and backstory. It's a bit interesting to note nowthat 2nd movie DOES cut out a rather significant plot point, but I always hated that particular plot point, and never thought it made much sense. It's replaced by some more character development for Adrmial Lindsy and Chrono's father, which is a GOOD thing. Animation is amazing. It's easily a 10/10. The movie budget does not disapoint, as even the most complext of action sequences do not present a dull in animation. Action is incredible, it looks amazing and feels amazing. Much of the high impact action is intertwined with some fairly emotional moments (Such as Nanoha fighting down Reinforce while Fate struggles with her identity) Characters are as likable and fun as ever, with Nanoha and Fate taking center stage in all their glory. Interestingly, the yuri overtones between the two appear more obvious than the series (theres seriously a moment where they hold onto each others hips and stare into each others eyes....) but that's pretty cute. Nano-Fate is a thing. In the actual series, it was a bit more subtle. A non intuitive viewer might've had more trouble picking up their relationship. It's more obvious in this movie. Take it or leave it whether thats good or not. I'm personaly indifferent. My only disapointment was the end scene: In the series, it shows Nanoha and the rest grown up, in their "adult" forms. This was such an incredible highlight for me, marking the end of an era and the start of something amazing (Nanoha StrikerS). In the movie, only Fate appears SLIGHTLY older (and even then, by about a YEAR at maximum) and the rest are looking the same age. I can only hope that the StrikerS movie appears! SORRY! I tried to keep this as short as I could, but this IS a movie from my favorite anime series. Anyway, 100% recomended!

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie 2nd A's is a movie rendition of the corresponding tv series, and a direct sequel to the 1st movie which covered the first season of the franchise. While the first incarnation started out as a fairly ordinary magical girl series, it eventually evolved into what could be described as the Magical Girl Lightshow of Befriending, involving flashy combat and interesting swaths of character development that made it unique in this genre. Visually speaking, the movie is extremely shiny and polished, despite a few moments of off model that were barely noticed. While the first movie looked great, it stillresorted to stills in combat scenes, but 2nd A's makes these weaknesses far less pronounced, leading to a ton of fluid movement. Regardless of the actual content of the movie, it sure does look appealing, especially for those into moe aesthetics. Unfortunately, it falters in the story department. This was to be expected, as the series was 13 episodes long with minimal filler. Trimming at anything significant would weaken the narrative, and unfortunately there are a few plot threads that simply will not make sense to those who haven't seen the tv series. That is most likely the greatest weakness of the movie, and I would have to recommend you watch the tv series first. What it does focus on, it does fairly well, and offers a lot of humanization to the antagonists of the story which makes the storytelling a more balanced affair. It's not too easy to take sides in this conflict for good reason, and that makes the movie more involving to watch. The movie actually doesn't spend that much time pew pew'ing all day as compared to the first movie, and focuses some on developing the characters' personalities and inner thoughts. Still, due to time constraints, certain key players from the tv series are left hanging but still left there leaving you wondering what they're supposed to do. I felt they could have fit them in more cleanly. In the end, I was very much satisfied to see Nanoha animated after an absence of three years. This movie is much more for fans though, and while I'd recommend that you could skip the first television series for the first movie, I really can't say the same for this. So, if you're into the series, you should know what to expect. If not, then try the television series, and give this a pass for now.
